The Doctor Who spin-off that never was

Today’s little nugget from Doctor Who Monthly: Russell T Davies proposed a show called Rose Tyler: Earth Defence as a 90-minute Bank Holiday special. The BBC commissioned it and assigned it a decent budget. But he began to feel it would reduce the quality of Doctor Who, so cancelled it.

How odd. On all counts.
