It’s been a quiet week for TV reviewing on TMINE this week, since I’ve basically been busy as f*ck. And not just recording a podcast. Sorry about that. And I had such plans, too!

But I have been watching TV, just not reviewing it, as you’ll soon see…

Next on TMINE

Coming up after the jump, I’ll be reviewing Betty (US: HBO; UK: Sky Comedy) and Upload (Amazon). I have every intention of doing another Covideodrome, too, seeing as I’ve rewatched Inception (2010) and watched Faster (2010) and Extraction (2020) this week. It’s just a question of when…

There’s more TV on the way this week, but as usual, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another. That and the fact it’s a Bank Holiday tomorrow.

On the streaming services, as mentioned last week, Amazon now has season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+). However, since then, it’s dropped the price tag, so now it’s free to Amazon Prime members, so there’s a significantly greater chance I’m going to watch it now.

Meanwhile, Netflix has The Eddy coming on Friday, but that’s a jazz musical, so there’s no chance I’m watching that, and Valeria is probably a bit too girly for me.

On regular old cable in the US, I Know This Much is True (US: HBO; UK: Sky Atlantic) is coming on Sunday, but that’s about it as all the US broadcasters have started postponing the shows they’ve already got in the can, to make sure they’ll actually have something new to air in autumn.

The regulars

After the jump, as well as those two new shows, it’s the usual regulars: For Life, Mystery Road, One Lane Bridge and What We Do In The Shadows, as well as the season finale of Westworld. That said, I’ve not had the chance to watch much TV for the past two days, so I’ve not seen the absolute latest episodes of either For Life and What We Do In The Shadows, so I’m a bit behind.

Coming up after the jump, I’ll be reviewing The Secrets She Keeps (Australia: Ten; UK: BBC Four) and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (US: Showtime; UK: Sky Atlantic). But there’s more TV on the way this week – as usual, though, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another.

In the US, HBO will be giving us skating show Betty but that’s about it. However, on the streaming services, Netflix will be offering us Summertime, Almost Happy, Hollywood, and Into The Night, while Apple TV+ gives us its first UK show, Trying. Meanwhile, Amazon has Upload for us.

I’ve also just noticed that Amazon now has season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+). I’d love to watch that but you can only rent or buy it, and I’m cheap. You might not be, though.

I’m going to try at least one of those, I reckon. Maybe more. How about you?

It’s been another busy week for TMINE, but I have managed to eke out the time needed to review The Baker and the Beauty (US: ABC). Meanwhile, temporary new film review feature Covideodrome was inaugurated with Sliding Doors (1998).

Coming up after the jump, I’ll be reviewing Mrs America (US: Hulu; UK: BBC Two) and #blackAF (Netflix). But as usual, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another.

I’ve finally managed to track down The Secrets She Keeps (Australia: Ten; UK: BBC Four), which will be getting a review later in the week. Elsewhere down under, over in New Zealand, One Lane Bridge has just started, so I’ll be giving that a watch if possible.

On the streaming services, Season two of After Life will be arriving on Netflix on Friday, while Defending Jacob is Apple TV+’s new Friday show. I’ll probably watch at least a bit of them. Monday’s Never Have I Ever (Netflix) sounds a bit YA for me, but I might give it a try, too.

Lastly, in the US, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (US: Showtime) is arriving on Sunday, but despite the presence of Natalie Dormer in the cast, I’m not sure I can be bothered with this, given I wasn’t the greatest fan of Penny Dreadful.

But that looks like about it.

The regulars

I haven’t watched any more Tales From The Loop, but other than that, it’s the usual regulars after the jump: For Life, Transplant, and Westworld, as well as the season/series finales of Devs and War of the Worlds.

But two previous regulars have returned this week, so I’ll also be covering What We Do In The Shadows (US: FX; UK: BBC Two) and Mystery Road (Australia: ABC; UK: BBC Four), too.

Quarantine schedule continues at TMINE, but just like fresh fish in prison, we’re getting the hang of lockdown. That means I actually reviewed a new TV show this week: Broke (US: CBS).

Boxsets, movies et al still remain a tiny, dreamt of aspiration, and I suspect having a four-day Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy this week won’t change that, but to quote the great Ben Kingsley in the equally great Perpetual Grace LTD, “Get it. Get the rhythm, get the rhythm, there we go, there we f*cking go” – and it seems I’m getting it.

Next on TMINE

I’ve finished rewatching season one of Iron Fist, you’ll be relieved to hear (still great, particularly its juxtaposition of eastern philosophies with western plotting), which means I have actually started a few new shows, although I’m still no further with season 3 of Babylon Berlin.

After the jump, we can talk about the first episode of anthology show Tales From The Loop (Amazon). I also made a start on Home Before Dark (Apple TV+) this morning, so I might have something to say about it by next week.

We’ve some new and returning Australian shows coming up this week: season two of Bloom is due to hit Stan tomorrow, while I’ve just discovered The Secrets She Keeps (Australia: Ten; UK: BBC Four) is apparently already out, ahead of schedule – thanks, coronavirus! – so I’ll give them both a whirl, if I can.

Netflix is giving us Brews Brothers tomorrow, while Run (US: HBO; UK: Sky Comedy) is starting on Sunday. Monday will give us The Baker and the Beauty (US: ABC). Again, I’ll try to watch them, but it’s a Bank Holiday Monday, so let’s see how well I do on Tuesday work-wise before I promise anything.

What have you been watching? Including Vagrant Queen and Council of Dads

I think it’s fair to say that TMINE is on a quarantine schedule at the moment. It’s actually surprising hard for me to watch things at the moment, let alone find the time to write about them (as today’s delayed WHYBW proves) – mainly because I’m working like a bastard at the moment (oh to be on PAYE and furloughed!)), but also because I’m playing lots of board games and watching loads of things I’ve already watched but on Disney+. Plus Iron Fist, of course.

Thing’s will probably be a little different next week once my workload shifts to “things that don’t have deadlines”, but certainly, this week, I’ve not been able to review any new TV and the only movies I’ve watched have been The Banker (2020).

It probably doesn’t help that none of the new shows hitting the Internet have either looked or been very appealing.

Sorry about that, but hopefully normality will return soon.

Council of Dads

I’ve not watched any new movies, so there’ll be no Orange Thursday tomorrow. Sorry again. But I have watched Council of Dads (US: NBC) and Vagrant Queen (US/UK: Syfy), both of which I’ll be reviewing after the jump.

Coming up this week in TV world is Broke (US: CBS), which I feel like I’ve reviewed already but don’t seem to have (not a good sign); Home Before Dark (Apple TV+); and Tales From The Loop (Amazon). Not sure I fancy any of those, but let’s see what I actually manage to watch. Plus there’s always Freud (Netflix).
