It’s been another reviews-light week this week, thanks principally to there being a bank holiday and there not being much to watch. Plus I’ve been busy. However, things are going to be a little quieter for me next week and there’s at least a couple of new shows worth watching coming up, so I should have some reviews for you in June. Hoorah!

What TMINE is currently watching…

I’m a little further into season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+; UK: Amazon), but not yet done, so hold your horses on that. I also watched Charlie Brooker’s Antiviral Wipe (UK: BBC Two), which was welcome but not totally different from all previous wipes. It was moderately depressing, since I’d given up watching the news of late on the general grounds of its general depressingness, so I got to watch all the depressing things I’d missed. But there was at least an element of optimism in there and it was nice to see the return of Cunk.

Could have done with some Adam Curtis, though.

Next on TMINE

Usual lockdown rules, even though lockdown is easing: I’m going to try to watch all of these but there’s a fair chance I may end up watching none because Life.

I haven’t got around to watching Anna Kendrick’s new thing, Love Life (US: HBO Max), but have every intention of catching that over the weekend. Lovely wife has expressed an interest in watching Steve Carrell’s Space Force (Netflix), so there’s a good chance I’ll have seen at least one episode of that before Monday, but hopefully more. Who knows? Maybe it’ll even be a Boxset?

That’s it from the US, though*, but Australia will be offering Cold War thriller Operation Buffalo (Australia: ABC) on Sunday, so that’ll be on the line-up, too.

* I really need to check What time, TMINE, to see if there are only foreign shows on Netflix that I’ve missed, don’t I? Because if I don’t read TMINE, who on Earth else will, hey?

After the jump is the diminishing list of regulars: What We Do In The Shadows and new arrival Star Girl, as well as the season finales of both One Lane Bridge and Mystery Road. But Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet made a surprise guest appearance with a quarantine episode, so I watched that as well. All of those in a mo.

While TMINE has been very good for copying and pasting YouTube embed codes into hastily written up pieces about viral videos this week, in terms of reviews, it’s been a bit of a bust. In fact, WHYBW is on a Friday this week, that’s how slack things have got.

But don’t worry, I have reviews aplenty after the jump.

What TMINE is currently watching…

I’m still four episodes into season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+; UK: Amazon), so no Boxset Monday for that. I’ve also got not further with Upload (Amazon), Tales from The Loop (Amazon), The Crown (Netflix) and a few other shows I’ve started. Sorry again.

I also didn’t start watching I Know This Much is True (US: HBO; UK: Sky Atlantic), The Great (US: Hulu; UK: StarzPlay), Inhuman Resources (Dérapages) (France: France 2; UK: Netflix), White Lines (Netflix) or Blood & Water (Netflix). And I probably won’t now. Sigh.

But COVID. That seems to be a good excuse for everything.

I did try to watch Kermode and Mayo’s Home Entertainment Service (UK: BBC Four), but it was shortly after the point where Mark Kermode explained (as usual) that up until recently he’d not really watched much TV… ever and just after they presented the show’s highlights, which were basically a bunch of BBC Three shows and some movies in which I had no interest that I realised…

…I love Wittertainment, but as much as I love their film knowledge and reviews, I can easily go without their views on TV and hearing them might even make me think less of them.

Barkskin (US: NatGeo; UK: Disney+?)

Next on TMINE

There’s more TV on the way this week. Season two of Homecoming (Amazon) is now available, but I’m not bothering with that – you can if you want to. Barkskins (US: NatGeo; UK: Disney+?), an eight-part adaptation of Annie Proulx’s novel about a conflict between French and English settlers in a small 1690s settlement in forested territory that is now Quebec, starts on Sunday. Again, you can watch that if you want to.

But that’s your lot. Honestly, it’s a good job it’s a Bank Holiday this weekend, because now I have an excuse not to review either of those.

Extraction (2020)

TMINE’s regular schedule isn’t really compatible with a busy workload and lockdown, so as usual, it’s been a bit of a review-lite week this week. Covideodrome did manage to take in Netflix’s new blockbuster, Extraction (2020) (TBH, it’s the kind of movie that shouldn’t be on a streaming service but on the big screen, but there you go). But that’s it for reviews.

So I’m guessing that for the time being at least, I’m going to have to confine reviews to WHYBW, which is probably going to be on Thursdays for the near future at least.

What TMINE is currently watching…

I’m four episodes into season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+; UK: Amazon) and I’m pleased to report that it’s as good as the first season and better than the second so far. Fingers crossed, I might have finished it by next week, so it could well be a Boxset Monday. Yes, I know what I just said.

A quiet backburner project that Lovely Wife and I are running is season 3 of The Crown (Netflix), which is proving very interesting in lots of ways. But that’s ongoing, so I’ll save my comments until we finish the season.

I also watched the Parks and Recreation charity special. This was… okay. But then I only ever thought Parks and Recreation was okay – something Lovely Wife seems to agree with, as she works her way through it on Sky Comedy as another backburner project. Still, it was nice to see the cast ‘together’ (or at least interacting in character) again.

There’s more TV on the way this week, but as usual, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another.

I’m hoping to get round to I Know This Much is True (US: HBO; UK: Sky Atlantic) at some point, but that started on Sunday, so it’s not going well so far. Friday brings us The Great (US: Hulu; UK: StarzPlay) as well as Inhuman Resources (Dérapages) (France: France 2; UK: Netflix) and White Lines (Netflix).

Coming Sunday is Snowpiercer (US: TNT; UK: Netflix), while Tuesday brings us Stargirl (US: DC Universe) – not to be confused with the very different Disney+ show. And on Wednesday, there’s Blood & Water (Netflix).

It’s been a quiet week for TV reviewing on TMINE this week, since I’ve basically been busy as f*ck. And not just recording a podcast. Sorry about that. And I had such plans, too!

But I have been watching TV, just not reviewing it, as you’ll soon see…

Next on TMINE

Coming up after the jump, I’ll be reviewing Betty (US: HBO; UK: Sky Comedy) and Upload (Amazon). I have every intention of doing another Covideodrome, too, seeing as I’ve rewatched Inception (2010) and watched Faster (2010) and Extraction (2020) this week. It’s just a question of when…

There’s more TV on the way this week, but as usual, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another. That and the fact it’s a Bank Holiday tomorrow.

On the streaming services, as mentioned last week, Amazon now has season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+). However, since then, it’s dropped the price tag, so now it’s free to Amazon Prime members, so there’s a significantly greater chance I’m going to watch it now.

Meanwhile, Netflix has The Eddy coming on Friday, but that’s a jazz musical, so there’s no chance I’m watching that, and Valeria is probably a bit too girly for me.

On regular old cable in the US, I Know This Much is True (US: HBO; UK: Sky Atlantic) is coming on Sunday, but that’s about it as all the US broadcasters have started postponing the shows they’ve already got in the can, to make sure they’ll actually have something new to air in autumn.

Baron Noir could well have his day this week…

But there’s more TV on the way this week – as usual, though, Covid-19 rules apply to the following new shows: I have every intention of watching all of them, but might not be able to, for one reason or another.

In the US, HBO will be giving us skating show Betty but that’s about it. However, on the streaming services, Netflix will be offering us Summertime, Almost Happy, Hollywood, and Into The Night, while Apple TV+ gives us its first UK show, Trying. Meanwhile, Amazon has Upload for us.

I’ve also just noticed that Amazon now has season 3 of Baron Noir (France: Canal+). I’d love to watch that but you can only rent or buy it, and I’m cheap. You might not be, though.

I’m going to try at least one of those, I reckon. Maybe more. How about you?
