Just in case you missed the news at the weekend, the Pinewood James Bond stages have burnt down. Filming on Casino Royale was over, but this is still a massive blow to Pinewood.
If you’ve never seen the Bond stages, from personal experience I’d say that that had to be one huge fire to take them down. They really were enormous.
A while ago, I was wondering where State of Play 2 had got to. It’s somewhere. I know it is. And I want it bad.
It looks more likely that the Hollywood adaptation of State of Play is going to arrive first, though. Today’s big surprise is that Brad Pitt of all people is apparently interested in taking on John Simm’s original role.
According to Variety, “Pitt is also circling Universal’s ‘State of Play,’ the pricey Americanized adaptation of the acclaimed British miniseries. Matthew Carnahan is writing the script. Pitt is interested in playing a journalist and former campaign manager of a fast-rising politician who unravels a murder conspiracy involving his former boss.”
Just can’t see it myself. Still, Pitt is very much trying to be an actor these days. He was also the one who ensured that Se7en retained its original downbeat ending, saying he’d walk from the project if a happier one were tacked on. So, we can only hope that he brings his power to bear and delivers us a State of Play movie that we can all be proud of.
Assuming he ends up doing it, of course. You know how fickle these stars can be.
Bill Lawrence, creator of Scrubs, is writing and directing a prequel to Chevy Chase’s Fletch series of movies (which were based on a series of books). And he’d like Zach Braff as the lead…
I was just boycotting the Odeon Greenwich’s Galley, but a couple of things have extended my boycott to the entire establishment.
Odeon, you charge roughly three diamonds plus a pot of gold, frankincense and myrrh for your medium-sized Pepsis: you can afford to give the ice (frozen water!) away as part of that.
It’s all a bit trivial, I know. But they’ve annoyed me now.
Remember Stargate? I think you do. It starred Kurt Russell and James Spader, way back in 1994, and spawned a slightly successful TV series. And another slightly successful TV series. And a bad cartoon series. That first series has now been running for 10 years.
So it is with much amusement that I read that Dean Devlin, Kurt Russell and James Spader are all interested in making a second and possibly third movie following on from the original movie. Most entertainingly, it’ll be set 12 years after the original and yet somehow, according to Devlin, “We would just continue the mythology of the movie and finish that out. I think the series could still live at the end of the third sequel. So we’re going to try to not tread on their stories.”
Right. Can’t really see how that one’s going to work.
All the same, I’ll probably watch it when it comes out. Sounds like it might be a laugh…
