Slate has an interesting defence of M Night Shyamalan today that’s actually worth reading. Not only does it cut the guy a little slack (yes, his last couple of films have sucked rather a lot, but then Hitchcock had his bad streaks, too), it includes some snippets from The Man Who Heard Voices: Or, How M. Night Shyamalan Risked His Career on a Fairy Tale, which sounds absolutely hilarious.

James Earl Jones has done plenty of movies in his long and illustrious career. However, he’s probably most famous as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.
I wonder what it would be like if someone were to take all of Darth Vader’s scenes from Star Wars and dub them over with lines from some of JEJ’s other, not-so-good movies. Hmmm….
Cinescape has a secret source who says Robin Williams is in negotiations to appear in The Bourne Ultimatum, the third of the Bourne Identity movies, which is just about to begin filming.
Not sure what to make of that. Clearly the movies are nothing like the books (a good thing at times, bad at others), but Bourne’s helpful CIA psychiatrist Mo Panov might be a good match for Williams. Bourne’s dad, which is the other possibility? I don’t think so.
For heaven’s sake, it’s still Robin Williams. No matter how many One Hour Photos, Insomnias and Good Will Huntings he makes, he’s still Robin Williams.
Here’s a weird one for you. Christopher Nolan, director of Memento, Insomnia and Batman Begins has a new flick out called The Prestige. It’s based on Christopher Priest’s 1996 novel about duelling magicians and stars Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and Scarlet Johansson. It also features David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, which is a tad weird.
The trailer, now up on the Apple web site, looks a lot more interesting than the movie sounds from my brief description, so give it a try and see what you think.
