An actual Wonder Woman clip

The producers of the Wonder Woman pilot that NBC failed to pick up this year are still shopping it around for a home on another network. Here’s a clip they’re using to promote it:

This doesn’t look too bad, so I can understand why they’d use it, particularly since she’s wearing the third, more traditional costume in it. But from a pilot that had Wonder Woman torturing someone to extract information from them even though she has a lasso of truth, I’m expecting the rest of it to be a whole lot worse.

I’ve got a lot more enthusiastic about this since I realised it’s Tyra from Friday Night Lights. I’m now imagining Tyra herself as a superhero and loving it. I am aware that this is probably not what Wonder Woman is actually offering. But it SHOULD be.

  • Not unless Tyra was actually made from clay by Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, imbued by a soul from the Cavern of Souls, blessed with mystic abilities by Demeter, Aphrodite, Athena, Hestia, Hermes and Artemis, then raised as an Amazon warrior for thousands of years on Paradise Island.

Apart from the picture quality, everything else — dialogue, acting, directing, even the location, just screams… well, the only word I can think of is ‘amateur’.

  • From the point of view of regular drama, yes. From the point of view of TV superhero dramas, it’s not half bad. And if you think otherwise, I spy with my little eye, something beginning with ‘You haven’t seen The Cape yet.’

You spy correctly, and dipping into an episode of Smallville (which I stopped watching almost immediately it started, owing to it being too rubbish for words) suggests you are right about the general standard too.
    Sigh.
