The excitement about Wonder Woman still isn’t dying down, you know. It’s now only $1m behind Spider-Man at the box office – if it beats that, it’ll officially be the highest grossing superhero origins movie ever. Wowzers.

Last week, James Cameron decided to double-down on his anti-Wonder Woman comments. Now Lynda Carter has waded in on Facebook:

To James Cameron -STOP dissing WW: You poor soul. Perhaps you do not understand the character. I most certainly do. Like all women–we are more than the sum of our parts. Your thuggish jabs at a brilliant director, Patty Jenkins, are ill advised. This movie was spot on. Gal Gadot was great. I know, Mr. Cameron–because I have embodied this character for more than 40 years. So–STOP IT.

You might want to back off now, Jimmy.

Meanwhile, the movie is having its own influence on TV. Gal Gadot is going to be hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend.

And Chicago Fire‘s writers have admitted to doing a female-centric episode of the show after having seen the movie.

What was the impetus for that for Dawson specifically?

Whenever you can throw a firefighter off duty without their equipment, without their radios into one of these situations and see how they would react in that pressure cooker, she’s a natural for it. It was her turn. After I saw Wonder Woman, I was like, “Dawson’s our Wonder Woman! She needs to have an episode!” That was the driving force there.

All the same, attention is now shifting towards Justice League, which is due out next month. A new trailer is due on Sunday and to promote that, there’s a range of new character posters out, including one of our Diana:

Empire magazine has a Justice League front cover drawn by none other than Jason Fabok:

The observant will notice that along with a lot of other Justice League promotion material, Wonder Woman is at the front – yep, DC knows what side its bread is buttered on now.

Merchandise news

Nothing much else Diana-y that I spotted, but there is a Funko set with an Aquaman theme coming out that has a teaser that features Funko Diana.

But that’s about it. After the jump, we’ll have a look at the one title to feature Diana this week: Justice League #30. In it we discover that Diana isn’t the worst mum in the world after all. So that’s nice.

It’s been a quiet-ish week for our Diana, now that the Blu-Ray release of Wonder Woman is finally done and dusted. James Cameron doubled down on his critique of the movie, but no one cares about that, do they? Meanwhile, with Justice League coming soon, Gal Gadot and the rest of the movie league have been explaining their characters to the Japanese.

But that was it really, as far as news went.

Still, over in comics, we had the conclusion of the Justice League/Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers team up and there’s a new author on Wonder Woman – James Robinson. He’s picking up that Grail/Diana’s brother storyline that you thought had got left behind back in the nu52 at the end of ‘the Darkseid War’.

With Wonder Woman coming out on Blu-Ray in the US this week, Warner Bros pulled out all the stops to promote it… by having a bunch of drones do some sky-writing over Los Angeles. I’m not quite sure what says ‘Wonder Woman’ about Los Angeles other than ‘Warner Bros has its offices here so we won’t have far to go for this’, but at least Warner put some footage up on the InterWeb for the few hundred million Americans who don’t live there (and the rest of the planet):

Maybe you had to be there.

Fortunately, we also got the final two of Lucy Davis’ marvellous ‘Etta Candy explains…’, the first about Ares, the god of war (extra bonus points to our Lucy for trying to pronounce in a Greek stylee), the second about ‘the Reinforcements’.

Comics news

The only bit of Wondy (ish) comics news of the week was that Justice League is going to get a new writing team as of issue #34. Christopher Priest will be writing, Pete Woods on art, with Priest trying to add a bit more of a real-world aesthetic to the title:

“Is the Justice League still relevant? What are their goals and how do we define them? In the ‘real’ world, how would various societies around the globe view this pantheon of godlike beings?” Priest asked, saying that he intends to treat the series “more like a workplace drama,” and that — although there will be alien invasions and super villains to deal with — “the League’s greater challenge will be to define their place in this new and increasingly cynical age.”

Someone should probably tell him that Wondy isn’t just godlike, she is a goddess. Or a demi-goddess. Whatever DC editorial has agreed on this week anyway.

Another week’s gone by. Can you believe it? I hope you’ve all been off helping the sick and needy, studying for your third masters degree or doing something equally worthy. Because I’ve been surfing the Internet, watching tele and reading comics, so someone somewhere had better be doing something worthwhile, for all our sakes.

Here’s what I learned.

Movie news

The big news is that Patty Jenkins has been hired to direct Wonder Woman 2 and is getting paid a big chunk of cash to do it – at (roughly) $8m, which is eight times what she got for Wonder Woman, she’s now officially the highest paid female director ever.

She’s also co-writing the sequel and although the plot is tightly under wraps (maybe the Cold War, maybe with the Invisible Jet), all we can say for sure is that she’s going to be co-writing it with Geoff Johns (again) and now Dave Callahan. Callahan’s best known for writing The Expendables, but he was also working with Jenkins on an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s Jackpot before the big chunk of cash arrived. I’m guessing that’s on hold for a while now.

Meanwhile, publicity for the release of Wonder Woman on Blu-Ray continues apace, with more clips from the extras. Top of these again is another Etta Candy video, this time about Steve Trevor:

Of course, Blu-Ray isn’t the only way to watch Wonder Woman and in the US, you can watch it on DirecTV Cinema. Rather nicely, they’ve put out an ad for it that’s voiced by none other than Susan Eisenberg – the voice of Wonder Woman for an entire generation who grew up on the Justice League cartoons:
