An actual Wonder Woman clip

The producers of the Wonder Woman pilot that NBC failed to pick up this year are still shopping it around for a home on another network. Here’s a clip they’re using to promote it:

This doesn’t look too bad, so I can understand why they’d use it, particularly since she’s wearing the third, more traditional costume in it. But from a pilot that had Wonder Woman torturing someone to extract information from them even though she has a lasso of truth, I’m expecting the rest of it to be a whole lot worse.

Wonder Woman weirdness – a famous Wonder Girl and a third costume for Adrianne Palicki

Adrianne Palicki in the third Wonder Woman costume

First off, above is the costume Adrianne Palicki wore at the end of the pilot for a proposed new series of Wonder Woman (thankfully not picked up). Surprisingly, worse than the other ones, I think. Poor Wonder Woman, she never gets the breaks.

Anyway, the wife and I were watching original series Wonder Woman the other night and to our surprise, up pops Drusilla, Wonder Woman’s sister aka Wonder Girl (not in the comics, where it’s Donna Troy, but hey ho). Okay, not surprised by Wonder Girl – surprised by who’s playing her.

Recognise her yet?

Debra Winger as Wonder Girl

No? Well that would be Debra Winger, star of An Officer and a Gentleman and recently In Treatment, in pretty much her first role (they were even lining up a Wonder Girl TV series for her). How odd.

Wonder what Adrianne Palicki’s going to be doing in 35 years’ time.

The (new) new Wonder Woman costume

Wonder Woman

So what are we all thinking about the new version of the new version of Wonder Woman’s costume? As you may recall, after NBC released some official photos of the costume, as worn by Adrianne Palicki of Friday Night Lights fame in the pilot – which also stars Elizabeth Hurley, Cary Elwes and Jason Bruening of Knight Rider – there was a certain amount of feedback along the lines that it was terrible: plasticky, a bit porny and very impractical. More than that, some said it was unpatriotic, since it didn’t have the stars from the US flag on it, as per Wonder Woman’s original costume.

So NBC have retooled the costume slightly – here’s an after and before photo:

Better? Worse? And given that the script by David E Kelley has Wonder Woman, the famous CEO of Themiscyra Industries, loving ice cream, Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’, sleepovers and pining over lawyer Steve Trevor, could this get any worse anyway?
