It’s been another slow news week in the realm of things wondrous, so let’s head straight into the comics. Except… it’s been a bit slow there, too.

She gets a mention in Man of Steel #1, where it’s revealed she might not be as tall as you think she is.

Taller Than Wonder Woman

Meanwhile, just in case you were wondering what’s happened to Diana in Doomsday Clock, it seems she’s disappeared, as she’s not listed in the guide to superheroes around the world at the back of issue #5. However, Wonder-Woman, her Chinese counterpart, does get a mention.

World-Wide Superheroes

Hmm. Is this an elseworld? It’s all starting to feel like Geoff Johns is trying to do an Alan Moore – use Watchmen to comment on superheroes without using the real versions. A DC Universe without Diana? I don’t think so.

Lastly, Justice League: No Justice is winding up at last with issue #4, in typical nonsensical fashion, with Diana having to fashion a Wonderseed or something.

However, from tiny acorns, etc, etc, as Diana’s off to head up Justice League: Dark, as she feels like she might have some magical qualities hitherto unexplored.

Gosh. Some new developments and possibly new powers for Diana. That would be nice…

Not much news since last FWW. However, there’s now a trailer for the next DC Animated Universe movie, The Death of Superman, based on the 90s comic strip of the same name, in which Superman got clobbered by Doomsday (Ed: This is the second animated movie adaptation, on top of Batman v Superman, of that strip. Get some new ideas, DC).

Unlike the original comic, which IIRC didn’t feature any other superheroes bar Supes, this has got the rest of the Justice League in it, including our Diana (Rosario Dawson), who seems to get beaten up a lot. Hmm. Also, isn’t Superman supposed to be dating Wonder Woman as per the nu52 in the DCAU?

That’s out somewhere between July 24 and August 7 in the US, depending on whom you ask.

Last week, not only was I bit busy with work anyway, but there was literally no news or comics featuring Wonder Woman for me to review anyway, which is why there was – as predicted – no WWW/FWW. But Diana’s back this week in two titles and there’s news, too!

Comics news

Wonder Woman Annual #2 has been postponed by a week and on top of that, Wonder Woman is going to be $1 more expensive per issue as of #50. Cripes. Bet you wish there hadn’t been news after all, hey?

Merchandise news

If you’ve roughly $700 to spare and liked the nu52 Diana enough to spend that $700 on a single statue, you can pre-order this shiny thing:

Comics reviews

That just leaves this week’s new releases: Wonder Woman #46, which starts off a new ‘Dark Gods’ storyline; and Justice League: No Justice #1, which starts off a new ‘Really Dark Gods’ storyline. All that after the jump.

It’s “What have you been watching?”, your chance to recommend anything you’ve been watching this week

We’re starting to get a few new shows on tap now. This week, I’ve reviewed Cobra Kai (YouTube Red) and Sweetbitter (US: Starz), and I’ll be having a look at Vida (US: Starz) on Friday, too. Netflix also unveiled its first Danish TV show, The Rain, which would have been this week’s Boxset Monday had it not been:

  1. A Bank Holiday
  2. Clear within minutes that it was YAYA (yet another young adult) dystopian drama in which all the adults are wiped out by a plague, leaving the kids to fend for themselves.

On the latter point, Netflix alone already had Between and that’s before we even get started on the likes of Containment and The 100. I don’t think we need another one, even with subtitles – they’re all just so miserable.

Fingers crossed, though, I’ll be doing Tabula Rasa (Belgium: VRT; UK: Channel 4/Walter Presents) in Boxset Monday next week. Unless it’s rubbish. Or Netflix has something better.

More birthday celebrations last week (and probably work next week because of the Bank Holiday) means WWW is likely to be FWW for the next few weeks at least. Still, given that seems to work for DC, why not for WWW, too?

Not a huge amount of news this fortnight, mind: Patty Jenkins has confirmed that Wonder Woman 2 will be set in the 1980s, while Joss Whedon has defended his own unmade script for Wonder Woman:

But that’s your lot, so let’s head straight to the comics. Just the usual suspects, as far as I know, although of course that number is set to diminish very soon. So after the jump, let’s talk about Wonder Woman #45, Justice League #43, The Brave and the Bold #3 and the final issue of Trinity, #22.
