So, a lot of you probably think I’m making a lot of this up. Ali Larter (happy birthday, Ali!) may be very random, but no way has she been sub-contracting out that job to the various random actors and actresses I’ve been claiming while she’s been on maternity leave, you’re probably thinking. 

Well, how to explain this. Ali Larter’s favourite charity is The Art of Elysium. But she was busy this week at the Vanity Fair Campaign Hollywood 2011 – Chrysler Celebrates "The Fighter" Benefiting Communities In Schools and the Hollywood Domino Gala.

So who did she get to go to the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas & The Art of Elysium Pieces of Heaven Art Auction on Wednesday? Scarlett Johansson, who took notes.

But she didn’t just send Scarlett. Amber Heard was there, fresh from assisting Amnesty International and some illegal
Immigrants, to randomly sign cars, too.

See? Anyway, this is Scarlett’s bit of randomness this week (she got a whole load of other actresses to help out, too, including Emily Blunt, Jessica Biel, Minka Kelly, Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria Sofia Vergara and Lindsay Lohan): the Hottie Body Hump Club.

It seems with Ali off busy doing other things, there’s a mass outbreak of randomness among people wanting to get in on her act.

Randomly, Katherine Heigl has been smoking a metal cigarette. It even glows red at the end when you inhale.

Amber Heard, currently tipped to be 2011’s “next big thing” thanks to her starring roles in The Rum Diary with Johnny Depp and in NBC’s pilot for the Mad Men-esque Playboy, has been getting very random, not only acting as Grand Marshall at a Nascar rally (“Gentlemen, start your engines”) – as you do – but donating no fewer than five pairs of the “Daisy Dukes” she wore in Drive Angry 3D to various online news sites to give away in competitions.

But it’s this news reporter who probably has been the most random this week by spontaneously inventing an entirely new language while on-air (fingers crossed, she’s okay).

Random Acts of Ali Larter: being in demand, going to the post office and sub-contracting out to Crispin Glover

Ali is, of course, very busy right now, what with being one of the most in-demand actresses this pilot season and having to go to the post office. So, this week, Random Acts is being sub-contracted out to the world’s most random man, Crispin Glover. Right now, Glover is touring the UK with the second part of his Big Slide Show – “a one hour dramatic narration of eight different profusely illustrated books he has made over the years”, including one about rat catching. Catch him if you can.

Just to keep all you Ali lovers happy though, here she is staring at some strange plants with Idris Elba:

Random Acts of Ali Larter: braving mudslides to give birth

So Ali’s still on maternity leave, having given birth last month. Of course, in true Ali Larter style, she had to brave the LA mudslides to do this – even when giving birth, she has to be random.

This week, her usual replacement, Scarlett Johansson, is obviously still too depressed and hung over to be doing anything after last week:
