When’s that show you mentioned starting, TMINE? Including The White Princess, Chasing Life and Dark

Every Friday, TMINE lets you know the latest announcements about when new imported TV shows will finally be arriving on UK screens – assuming anyone’s bought anything, of course

A few acquisitions this week, none of which I’ve seen. Sigh. Oh well.

Walter Presents has bought up Rai (Italy)’s Maltese, which I hear from those who have seen it is rather good. However, Walter hasn’t revealed when he’s going to show it, I’m afraid.

Maltese apart, though, we do have a whole bunch of premiere dates for the other acquisitions.

Chasing Life (US: ABC Family; UK: Sony Channel)
Premiere date: Tuesday, October 17, 9pm

Chasing Life follows 20-something April, a smart and quick-witted aspiring journalist. Just as things start to look up at work, home and on the romance front with co-worker Dominic, April gets the devastating news from an estranged uncle that she has cancer.

It made it to a second season but no further and as it was on ABC Family (i.e. for young adults), I didn’t watch it. Soz.

The White Princess (US: Starz; UK: Drama)
Premiere date: Saturday, November 11, 9pm

Sequel to the Phillippa Gregory historical romance, The White Queen, which also got turned into a BBC One/Starz co-production. The Beeb bowed out of this sequel and since I didn’t watch the original, I bowed out of the sequel, too. Soz.

The White Princess picks up three days after the conclusion of The White Queen. The story begins as one of England’s most politically turbulent times – The War of the Roses – is coming to an end. An uneasy peace is achieved when former King Richard III is defeated at the Battle of Bosworth, and the victor, Henry Tudor, soon-to-be King Henry VII, is married to Lizzie – a princess from a rival house and Richard III’s former lover.

The eight episode limited series hails from writer and showrunner Emma Frost and stars Jodie Comer, Michelle Fairley, Essie Davis, Suki Waterhouse, Ned Elliot and Jacob Collins-Levy.

Dark (Netflix)
Premiere date: Friday, December 1

10-part German mystery thriller. However, the sinister mystery is not really whodunnit, or even where or how: It’s all about when. Set in a German town in the present day, Dark sees two young children disappear, exposing the double lives and fractured relationships among four families. The story then takes on a supernatural twist that ties back to the same town in 1986.

It’s not aired anywhere yet. So I haven’t seen it. Soz.

Snowfall
Airdates

When’s that show you mentioned starting, TMINE? Including Snowfall and 4 Blocks

Every Friday, TMINE lets you know the latest announcements about when new imported TV shows will finally be arriving on UK screens – assuming anyone’s bought anything, of course

Sheldon (US: CBS) has been the only acquisition this week, with E4 picking it up. I was moderately surprised by the first episode, and you might like it, too, but you won’t get to watch it until 2018, apparently. Sorry.

Otherwise, two new shows got premiere dates this week, the first of which starts on Wednesday:

4 Blocks

4 Blocks (Germany: TNT Serie; UK: Amazon)
Premiere date: Wednesday, October 4

Six-part story centred on an Arab family in the Neukölln district of Berlin where Toni Hamady (Kida Khodr Ramadan) and his wife Kalila (Maryam Zaree) want to leave their four blocks and put criminal activities behind them. But after his brother-in-law is arrested in a raid, Toni owes it to his family to take over operational leadership of the clan. When an old friend suddenly returns to Berlin, Toni believes he has someone he can trust at his side, and the hope of a lawful future seems to be within reach once more. But it’s too late for an escape.

Haven’t seen it, since it’s German and only aired in June, but I suspect it’ll probably be showing up in Boxset Monday some time soon.

Snowfall (US: FX; UK: BBC Two)
Premiere date: Sunday, October 8, 10pm

John Singleton-produced period drama about the birth of the crack epidemic in 80s LA.

Episode reviews: 1, 2

Marvels Inhumans
Airdates

When’s that show you mentioned starting, TMINE? Including Dynasty and Mindhunter

Every Friday, TMINE lets you know the latest announcements about when new imported TV shows will finally be arriving on UK screens – assuming anyone’s bought anything, of course

There’s been less acquisition activity this week than there was last week, but there’s been one biggie: ABC (US)’s Marvel’s Inhumans, which Sky1 has picked up to air some time in the Autumn. I haven’t seen it, but by all accounts, even shooting the first episode on IMAX equipment didn’t make it either good or interesting. Still, have a trailer for it now and I’ll let you know what it’s like once it’s aired:

Meanwhile, the redoubtable Walter has decided he’d quite like to present Yes (Israel)’s מלאך של אמא (Mama’s Angel). That’s not going to air until next Summer and nope, haven’t seen it either.

That leaves only two premiere dates, both for shows that I haven’t seen: Dynasty and Mindhunter. No, I don’t know why this category is called what it’s called.

When’s that show you mentioned starting again, TMINE? Including The Deuce, Law & Order: True Crime, X Company, Room 104, Snatch and Alias Grace

Every Friday, TMINE lets you know the latest announcements about when new imported TV shows will finally be arriving on UK screens – assuming anyone’s bought anything, of course

After last week’s deafening silence when it came to acquisitions, it’s all go this week, and we’ve got a flood of premiere dates, too, you’ll be glad to hear. Indeed, the only new acquisition that hasn’t already been given a premiere date is The Orville (US: Fox: UK: Fox UK), which I reviewed earlier this week. I’ll let you know when it’s revealed. I’m assuming it’s not going to be kept a secret, anyway.

After the jump, pop-pickers, I’ll be giving you the rundown of all the new acquisitions and their matching premiere dates. See you in a mo…
