Weekly Wonder Woman: Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Three #24, Sensation Comics #28

It’s another quiet week in DC land, with once again only Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Three and Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman giving us new stories and/or appearances by the Amazon princess. Sensation Comics gives us a one-issue battle between Diana and a dragon, but could someone else be behind it all?

Meanwhile, over on Injustice, it’s a momentous issue, because it marks the end of both the current storyline and Year Three altogether! How will we all cope until Year Four starts, I wonder?

How about with this video of Wonder Woman kicking everyone’s head in on the video game – it amounts to the same thing and is a tad more edifying, too.

After the roar of a fortnight ago, everything’s returned to relative quietness in the DC schedules. There’s been a brief cameo in Future’s End #44

Future's End #44

…but Wonder Woman ’77 has been removed from the DC digital schedule…

The DC digital schedule removes Wonder Woman '77

…which means that after the jump, we’ll only be having a look at who’s been punching whom in Injustice, and seeing if Lois Lane and Wonder Woman can bond while fighting some beasties during a quick interview in a two-part Sensation Comics story.

Futures End #42

After a few weeks of relative calm, it’s been action stations this week, as DC has deployed the big guns: as well as the usual Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Three (aka ‘International Superpunching Weekly’) and Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #25 (aka ‘Let’s see if we can get by on Tumblr agitprop, rather than good writing’), we’ve had a brief cameo appearance in Futures End #42, we’ve seen Diana take on virtually the entire Justice League single-handed in (you guessed it) Justice League, an old enemy has come to break up the happy couple and make the Amazons look not quite as bad in Superman/Wonder Woman and over in Wonder Woman, Diana’s been having the same problems balancing her responsibilities as before – but thankfully, we have the return of a very important old friend to help her.

Phew. No wonder I’m late this week. I might have to take a holiday next week after all this…

First, a quick question. What’s happened to Wonder Woman ’77? Three issues/one story down and despite the fact it’s listed on DC’s digital comics schedule as coming out every Thursday…

Wonder Woman '77 every Thursday?

…it’s now been three weeks since the last issue and Comixology has the next release down as a date ‘TBD’ (to be decided). Hmm.

Oh well, at least we’re still getting Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman every Thursday, despite the fact that it’s not on that schedule at all.

All the same, another quiet week for Diana with brand new appearances in just Injustice: Gods Among Year Three, in which Wonder Woman hits someone (who will it be this week?), and Sensation Comics, in which teenager Wonder Woman wins her dance-off and learns all about friendship in the outer world.

Of course, next week, with DC’s usual impeccable timing, we’ve got Justice League, Superman/Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman all at once in addition to the digital-only titles. I should probably enjoy the quiet while it lasts, shouldn’t I?

Streaming TV

Review: Better Call Saul 1×1-1×2 (US: AMC; UK: Netflix)

Better Call Saul

In the US: Mondays, 10/9c, AMC
In the UK: Netflix. New episode every Tuesday

So before we start, let’s be clear what this isn’t. This isn’t a review for anyone who loved Breaking Bad, of which Better Call Saul is a spin-off. For starters, I didn’t love Breaking Bad, and I gave up midway through the second season. I didn’t mind it, I thought it was good, but it felt too much like hard work with not a huge amount of reward.

I don’t even really remember Saul Goodman in the original show either. All I know is what’s available in the Wikipedia article on him.

Already many of you will be getting ready to declare me “Unmutual”.

That’s fine. Because you’ll be watching Better Call Saul whatever I say and if you really need someone to tell you if the show’s any good for a Breaking Bad lover or not, you can peruse any of the dozens of reviews on the Internet by people who’ve watched every single episode and have “Bitch” tattooed on each of their biceps.

No, this is a review for people who either didn’t like Breaking Bad or never quite got round to watching it. Because there’s bound to be a whole bunch of you out there like me who are potentially interested in watching Better Call Saul but want to know if they’ll be lost and mystified and whether they’ll enjoy it or not. Those people need someone like me.

So with that out of the way, let’s go see if we’d Better Call Saul or not. I’d recommend reading that Wikipedia article I linked to first, though – it’ll help a lot.
