What have you been watching this week (w/e February 4)?

Working Class

It’s “What have you been watching this week?”, your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week. Since we live in the fabulous world of Internet catch-up services like the iPlayer and Hulu, why not tell your fellow readers what you’ve seen so they can see the good stuff they might have missed?

As usual, a simple recommendation to watch Cougar Town, Michel Roux’s Service, 30 Rock, Top Gear and The Daily Show – watch them, they’re good, but I’ve not got a lot to say about them than that.

As usual, I’ve also got a slight backlog: last night’s Archer; last night’s Community; this week’s Episodes; and last night’s 30 Rock.

But other than that, after the jump, mini-reviews of last week’s Archer, this week’s Being Human and Chuck, last week’s Community, last week’s Episodes, and this week’s Fairly Legal, Portlandia, Royal Pains, Shameless, Southland, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Working Class

What have you been watching this week (w/e January 14)?

Shameless

As you may have guessed by my infrequent posting last week, I was working my backside off so didn’t have time on Friday for "What have you been watching this week?" (aka "Your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week. Sorry! But it’s here now.

So, after the jump, Cougar Town, Episodes, Kidnap and Ransom, Michel Roux’s Service, Modern Family, Shameless (US) and Southland. I’ll probably do proper reviews of Lights Out and Off the Map when I’ve caught up with them and I’ve already talked about The Cape. Oh, and we tried watching a bit of Wild at Heart on ITV but it was awful. Not making that mistake again.

What have you been watching this week (w/e January 7)?

Southland

Back on Friday after the Christmas break, it’s “What have you been watching this week?”, your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week. Since we live in the fabulous world of Internet catch-up services like the iPlayer and Hulu, why not tell your fellow readers what you’ve seen so they can see the good stuff they might have missed?

So things are starting up again, slowly, fortunately so I’ve managed to stay up to date with just about everything that was on this week, I think. I’ve already reviewed InSecurity, so, after the jump, Cougar Town, Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Peep Show, Running Wilde, and the week’s highlight, the return of the ever-marvellous Southland (best cop show since The Wire, in case I’ve not said that before). Guess which one I’ve decided to drop from my viewing schedules…

I have watched other stuff, but really Come Dine With Me and Time Team repeats aren’t necessarily anything I’d recommend other people watch.

Southland season three is coming soon

Awesome. TNT have a couple of promos for season three of Southland, which should be airing January 4 at 10/9c. It’s basically the new Wire (and yes, I appreciate it took me about three years to get people to watch that, so maybe I’ll have more success with Southland) so if you haven’t seen it, run off to iTunes or 4oD or something to play catch up – season two is actually better than season one, but watch both.

Watch it, I say, watch it!

Question of the week: what was the best TV show or movie you saw in 2010?

Inception

Quite a simple one today, and appropriate for the last QotW for 2010.

What was the best TV show or movie you saw in 2010?

It could be a TV series or movie. It could be just an episode of a TV show. It needn’t even be a new show, merely one that you saw for the first time this year. But whatever it was, let us all know.

You can refresh your memory by looking over my reviews A-Z, assuming I’ve reviewed it, and there’s always the weekly “what have you been watching?

Off the top of my head, I’d say personally

  • Inception – which is probably the best movie I’ve seen in the last one or even two years
  • In Treatment – which although slow to develop, really proved itself in its final week
  • Dexter – bar its final episode
  • Southland – the second season of which was just phenomenal (roll on season three)
  • Rubicon – for its last few episodes, which made it one of the best US spy series ever
  • Rev – just for proving the BBC can still do comedy
  • Sherlock – a brilliant first episode anyway
  • Community – which has had some brilliant individual episodes
  • Rome – finally caught up with it and loved the first season, although the second season was a disappointment
