Weekly Wonder Woman

Weekly Wonder Woman: Injustice Gods Among Year Four #18, Wonder Woman #77 #8

Weekly Wonder Woman’s back from its holiday on Themyscira everyone (Καλώς ήρθατε, WWW!). While it’s been on its sojourn, numerous Wonder-full comics have been published, including the likes of Justice League of America #3, Deathstroke #9, Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, Justice League #43, Superman/Wonder Woman #20, Wonder Woman #43, and new arrival DC Comics: Bombshells.

I’ll be reviewing precisely none of those today, since trying to play that much catch-up in one go lies on more or less the same ley line as barking insanity. However, as usual, I’ll probably catch each of them up once the next issue comes out.

Instead, today, I’ll content myself with looking at just last week’s issues and their continuing storylines: Injustice Gods Among Year Four #18 and Wonder Woman #77 #8. See you after the jump, once you’ve stopped ogling Gal Gadot in a new Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice promo pic and wondering why all the Wonder Woman pics are of her looking glamorous, while Supes and Bates just look moody and fighty.

Weekly Wonder Woman: Superman/Wonder Woman #19, Justice League #42, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Four #11, Sensation Comics #42, Martian Manhunter #2

It’s going to be the last Weekly Wonder Woman for a while, I’m afraid, since I’m on blogging holiday next week until the start of September. So treasure these words, for they’re the last you’re going to get for over a month.

But for our last Weekly Wonder Woman this summer, we have a doozy of a collection to work through. As well as seeing the power couple face down the Suicide Squad in Superman/Wonder Woman #19, we have Wonder Woman facing down the Anti-Monitor in Justice League #42, facing down Martian Manhunter in Martian Manhunter #2, facing down Nyx and two Strifes in Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #43… and, erm, apologising to Superman for breaking his arm in Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Four #11.

And finally, after weeks of digital comics promoting its arrival, we finally have not only the conclusion of the Justice League: Gods And Monsters comics series, but also Justice League: Gods and Monsters to watch on our teles. Was it worth the wait for Wonder Woman fans?

Find out after the jump.

It’s been a big weekend for our Wondy, because over in the San Diego Comic Con, we had the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that actually features the Amazon Princess. Blink and you might miss this…

That ‘real world’ excitement aside, it was also a busy week in Diana’s comic book world adventures, and surprisingly, all of it had a theological perspective. Over in Justice League of America, Superman’s Kryptonian god Rao has turned up, offering to help the world, prompting Lois Lane of all people to start examining the nature of belief. But where’s Diana in all of this, you might wonder? Good question…

Meanwhile, over in Sensation Comics, we mine Hesiod’s lesser known Works and Days to explore a little known facet of Eris aka Strife – there’s two of her. What will they get up to together?

Justice League: Gods and Monsters is a new title that acts as a prequel to the Justice League: Gods and Monsters movie and we learn quite a lot about this Elseworlds Wonder Woman – particularly that she likes to shag. A lot. But what are her views on godhood? That we’ll look at after the jump, too.

And lastly, it’s all out war between Amazons, gods and Justice League over in Injustice: Gods Among Us and by the end of it, there are going to be a whole lot more gods, too.

Phew. Like I said – a busy week, theologically!

The big news last week, of course, was the unveiling of the first images from Batman v Superman, which will, of course, include Wonder Woman. Look, here she is with Bat Affleck.

Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne

In the realm of comics, though, it was a relatively quiet week, with just two appearances in continuing stories by the Amazon princess. In Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, Diana once again faces Debbi Domaine aka Cheetah. Meanwhile, over in Injustice: Gods Among Us, we learn if underdog Superman can fight back in his battle against Diana – despite various bits of him having gone ‘crunch’ last week.

Weekly Wonder Woman: Deathstroke #7, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Four #8, Sensation Comics #39

Deathstroke #7

DC You’s new look for Wonder Woman launched last week, but you’d be hard pressed to notice it this week, thanks to all the Elseworlds versions in Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Four and Sensation Comics wearing variations of her outfits from Volumes 1 and 2 instead. Indeed, the only standard continuity Wonder Woman around is in Deathstroke #7 and she’s wearing her original nu52 outfit. But we’ll talk all about that after the jump.

We’ll also be looking at what happens when you try to put the Silver Age Cheetah on trial, over in Sensation Comics, and in Injustice: Gods Among Us, we’ll finally get round to answering the question “Who would win in a fair fight between Superman and Wonder Woman?” And so far, it’s not looking good for the last son of Krypton…
