Sitting Tennant

Today’s Sitting Tennant (from Rullsenberg): Love in the 21st Century.

David Tennant in Love in the 21st Century

As we head towards the end of the year and the unveiling of the winners of the 2008 Sitting Tennant Awards (any ideas what the prizes should be?), there’s now everything to play for and some people are playing for it very hard.

Today’s Sitting Tennant, for example, comes from a big stack that Ms Rullsenberg has sent me, meaning she’s opening up a lead on Ms Rosby that seemed unthinkable just a few weeks ago – we might even have enough for a Sitting Tennant advent calendar this week. It comes from Love in the 21st Century and clearly involves a Land of the Giants crossover, judging by the laptop DT is using.

As a result, the Sitting Tennant picture competition table now stands as follows:

  • Rullsenberg: 9.5
  • Rosby: 8
  • Persephone: 6.5
  • Toby: 5
  • Poly, Scott: 3.5
  • Jane: 2.5
  • Anna, Electric Dragon: 1.5
  • Marie: 1

The Witty And Amusing Captions league table sees Toby recover a very small portion of his old lead over Marie thanks to some extreme captioning, in a round that also saw a surprising number of back-related captions:

  • Toby: 24
  • Marie: 22
  • Jane Henry: 15
  • Rullsenberg: 14
  • Persephone: 12
  • Rev, Electric Dragon: 5
  • Stu_N: 2
  • Poly, Andrea: 1

As always, captions and new submissions for the gallery, please. Remember, you can submit as many (witty) captions as you like for each and every picture, with topical captions getting extra marks – as do pictures of David Tennant in current productions.

The final Sitting Tennant of 2008 will be on December 23rd when the results will be announced.

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below and if it’s judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. You can also enter the witting and amusing captions league table by commenting on existing photos in the gallery.

The Darkplace quandry

I’ve noticed something of late about British comedy. Or should I say British comedy fans.

It is in fact possible to separate them into two entirely distinct groups using just two questions. Both questions return the same groups. They are:

  1. Are you under 30?
  2. Do you like Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, Man to Man with Dean Learner, Snuffbox and Nathan Barley?

So, if you answered yes to 1 and are a British comedy fan, you almost certainly answered yes to 2 (and vice versa). On the other hand, if you answered no to 1 then you answered no to 2. Capice?

Man, did I labour that.

My question to you then is why should this be so? Is it

  1. The natural difference in tastes between older and younger generations?
  2. Or Is it that the older generation has seen it all before and is uninterested in the stupid, derivative, toothless gunk that seems to so please the younger, used to be foetuses just five minutes ago so what do they know generation and which isn’t a patch on The Day Today, say, which was put together by really talented, clever people*?

Let me know what you think. Although clearly the answer is 2.

* What do you mean Chris Morris did Nathan Barley as well? Liar

Comedy gods on Richard and Judy next week

Richard and Judy’s PR dropped me a line yesterday to let me know there are going to be a few comedy gods (of varying stature) dropping by their studios next week. The schedule is:

  • Bill Bailey (TX: Friday 12th December)
  • The Mighty Boosh (TX: Wednesday 17th December)
  • Jimmy Carr (TX: Thursday 18th December)
  • Ruth Jones (TX: Thursday 18th December)

Alan Titchmarsh is going to be on the 17th as well, just in case that sways you into watching. Remember, slacker student types, Richard and Judy are now on Watch at 8pm.
