Intermittent service

Blogging’s going to be a bit inconsistent over the next few days, I reckon, while my ISP (Be) and BT work out exactly which one of them has screwed up my broadband connection. At the moment, my brother-in-law is being nice enough to let me use his broadband, so fingers crossed I’ll still be able to work and earn money during this period of uncertainty.

Thank you for bearing with me…

US TV overkill

I’ve got a bit of backlog on tele. Surprising huh? I’ve got to work my way through Callista Flockhart’s Brothers and Sisters and the first episode of the new series of Ghost Whisperer. Thankfully, there was nothing new in Heroes so my preview still holds.

The trouble is, I think I’ve over-dosed. I’ve just got too much tele to watch. I haven’t even looked to see what new shows are on this week, either, but I suspect there’ll be a few. And frankly, I’m not sure I can bring myself to sit through two shows starring two women so thin they make me worry about their health.

But I’ll try. It’s just going to take a while. Bear with me.

Back again

I’m back. Again. While any journo worth his salt will be able to regale you with a dozen “And then I stayed up drinking until 7.30 in the morning, half an hour after I was supposed to get up, so I had to head off straight to the interview, reeking of alcohol, wearing the clothes I flew in on. I knew I was in trouble, because I hadn’t prepared, but then suddenly, in the back of the cab, which I’d had to direct using Inuit hand signals because he didn’t understand a word of English, I came up with the perfect question. I pulled it all together, wrote it up, and Sir John Gielgud said it was the best interview he’d ever done” stories, this was relatively dull and had a disappointing sleep:alcohol:work ratio, so I won’t regale you (much) with my exploits.

But just in case you were thinking of topping yourself and reading this blog was on the verge of pushing you over the edge, hold off! There are reasons to live still. For if you’ve never been to a Munich beer hall, watching a group of Germans dancing on tables in traditional Bavarian costumes to gay anthems played by a band fronted by an Emily Procter-lookalike drummer, there are still things in life to experience. Head off there now, while you still can.

On the other hand, you might be asked to try some German food. If it’s a choice between death and German food, might I heartily recommend the death option?

Anyway, coming up today should be that review of Men in Trees I promised, and maybe a couple of others, so hold on tight.

The week ahead

Well, I’m back from my vacation/my holiday/me hols (delete according to preferred dialect); yes, it did rain at various points, being Swansea, but it was also sunny. Hooray! I might blog about it over on my personal blog at some point. I might not though. Would anyone really be interested, I wonder?

Anyway, it’s going to be a busy week here on ‘The Medium is Not Enough’. The planned line-up includes:

  • A preview of Union Jackass, Al “Pub Landlord” Murray’s new US sitcom, airing on Fox in January (hopefully) and probably Sky One (or similar) in the UK shortly afterwards
  • Reviews of the first episodes of the new season of The Wire, Extras (if I can be arsed), Anne Heche’s new series Men in Trees and anything else that happens to air this week
  • Third-episode verdicts on ‘Til Death, Justice, Happy Hour and Standoff.
  • Plus generally sarcastic comments on TV news and anything else that happens this week.

However, I’m off to the Oktoberfest later today (it’s for business, honest guv’nor) and won’t be back till Wednesday afternoon, plus it’s going to be a busy post-holiday week anyway, so I have no idea exactly when I’m going to be able to squeeze all of this in. Fingers crossed, I will though.

Off on me hols

I’m away on holiday next week – Swansea, in case you’re curious – so no blogging for me, unless I somehow fail to beat my workaholism. Hopefully, I’ll be back on September 18th. Until then, have fun and I hope you find some good tele to watch!
