No Oscar nominations for Wonder Woman, but Baby Boss got a nod, so WWW spent last week in mourning. But it’s back now and feeling stronger.

Gal Gadot’s response to that snub?

“I was very moved and touched by the people who were disappointed that Wonder Woman wasn’t nominated, but we certainly never did the movie for that,” Gadot told ET on Wednesday. “I think that you can’t have it all. We’ve done this movie and it was received in such an amazing, wonderful way, and we want to stay humble and grateful, and we’re going to have another movie, so who knows? Maybe the next one!”

Still, let’s look ahead to Wonder Woman 2, which is the first movie to officially adopt new PGA anti-sexual harassment guidelines. According to Patty Jenkins:

“It’s got great fun from the start, and great big ‘superhero’ presence from the start — and is funny, and a great love story again,” she said in an interview with Variety. ““And [there are] a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about — who are very different than were in the last movie.”

Comics news

Trinity‘s been cancelled. The last issue will finish off the current Skartaris storyline and will be out in April. I’m not hugely surprised, since it never really managed to serve any of the characters that well. Still, it’s a shame to have one fewer title with Diana in it every month.

…is beginning to regret ever mentioning that Batman and Wonder Woman might flirt even slightly.

There’s a lot of people hating on me for writing and drawing a series that teams Batman with Wonder Woman. Some of the hate is from people who ship Wonder Woman and Superman. Some is from people who wrongly think I’m splitting up Diana and Steve – I’m not. I wouldn’t. Some is from people who think Diana shouldn’t be with any man at all, because it’s a male objectification trope. I was called out for mentioning that there would be a nod to the Batman Wonder Woman shippers, which drove some people nuts. I was told I support cheating on your partner for suggesting it’s possible to have many relationships before you meet the one you truly love and marry. That things happen, and people drift apart, and people make mistakes. That there is room to explore many such relationships in melodramas. Apparently this is not true for some.

These things are the kind of moment that drive you away from interacting online. It’s increasingly hard to be there for fans in a positive way because of this. And it’s too easy to say ignore the trolls. By doing that we have all allowed this kind of behavior to flourish.

Despite the fact that it’s been two weeks since the previous WWW, there’s only been one new title to feature Diana: Wonder Woman #39. I’ll be covering that after the jump.

Actually, that’s not quite true: Dark Knights: Metal #5 does, too, and apparently she finds a new use for the Lasso of Truth in that. However, I couldn’t even get through the terribly written four pages of the Comixology preview, so more than that I can’t say. Anyone want to let me know what I’ve missed out on?

Everyone’s starting to get back into the swing of things, now the New Year hangovers have passed, so the news is a little fuller this week.

Film news

Assuming you weren’t too traumatised by having seen it in the cinema, Justice League is now available to pre-order on Blu-Ray/DVD/download/microfiche/oil painting/tortoise. Due out next month in the US at least, the superset of promised features is:

As you can see, quite a lot of special features involving Wonder Woman and the Amazons, which is nice. No word on how many or what the deleted scenes are, but it’s probably not an entire Zac Snyder cut, so don’t set your hopes too high, fanboys.

Although no Oscar yet, Wonder Woman is up for a Maxwell Weinberg Publicist Showmanship Motion Picture Award. Nope, never heard of them before, either.

Meanwhile, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are forming some kind of double act, it seems. As well as being interviewed together, they’re now doing charades on The Tonight Show:

Diana made no fewer than four appearances in comic books this week. In Justice League #37, Diana goes on TV. Again. Meanwhile, in Trinity #17, she (and one or more male pals) ends up powerless in an alternative universe last seen in an old comic and has to do a lot of fighting. Simultaneously, over in Batman #39, she (and one or more male pals) ends up powerless in an alternative universe last seen in an old comic and has to do a lot of fighting. And over in Wonder Woman/Conan #5, we finally learn if Diana and Yanna are the same woman.

Happy New Year, True Believers! Yes, I know Stan Lee’s a Marvel man, but I doubt he’s trademarked it. So, True Believers, I hope you had a great time; Diana was off lighting a bonfire with Batman, apparently, so whatever you did, it was probably better than her Christmas/New Year celebrations.

Everyone else in the real world was off celebrating, too, so not a lot of news came out over the festive period. But here’s what did happen, for what it’s worth.

Movie news

Justice League looks set to close its run in cinemas with just $700m in takings, which is apparently enough to break even – just. It’s still not great though.

JUSTICE LEAGUE dropped over 1,500+ theaters this weekend and fell -76%, topping out w/ $222M domestic. Folks, that's $190M less than WONDER WOMAN and $5M less than Will Smith's HANCOCK–that's gonna sting for a bit.

Looking more to the future, though, Patty Jenkins says Wonder Woman 2 will be totally different from Wonder Woman:

“We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us,” the director told ET. “It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].”

Just the usual titles featured Diana Prime this fortnight, although Superman #38 might contain a visit from a future Wonder Woman (I can’t even), if you want to give that a whirl. So after the jump, we’ll see who won in that fight between Zeus and teenage Darkseid (the cover contains a bit of a spoiler, mind) in Wonder Woman #37 and in Justice League #36, she’s still agonising about her mission. And whether Germany is in the EU. Maybe not so much the second one, but it’s a concern.

Yes, it’s Weekly Wonder Woman – keeping you up to date on pretty much anything involving DC Comics’ premier superheroine, including what she does for breakfast

It’s the last Weekly Wonder Woman of the year, thanks to the upcoming Christmas holidays, but she’ll be back in the New Year ready to bring peace to the world with the minimum of violence necessary, you’ll be glad to hear.

The past two weeks have seen a minor deluge of comics, which we can look at together after the jump, as well as a flurry of news, which we can look at now.

Movie news

Justice League is officially clocking in as the worst performing DC Extended Universe movie ever, not even breaking even yet when marketing et al are taken into account, so the autopsies continue. Unfair attention is being levelled at the weird removal of Henry Cavill’s moustache, but certainly, it’s prompted a shake up at Warner, with producer Jon Berg leaving the film production division and a complete restructuring of the division planned for the New Year.

Wonder Woman, meanwhile, continues to rack up the plaudits. Gal Gadot is top of IMDb’s stars list for 2017, while the movie itself is one of the AFI’s top movies of 2017 – is an Oscar on the cards? Both Gadot and director Patty Jenkins continue to be feted, too, with Deadline interviewing both again recently about how they’d tried to portray Diana. Gadot also recently presented a Wonder Woman screenwriting scholarship at the Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment breakfast:

Meanwhile, TV Wonder Woman Lynda Carter is busily trying to help single-player gamers, who apparently are in need of… something.

Merchandise news

Another entry for ‘spooky corner’, here’s Prime 1 Studio’s Justice League Wonder Woman statue, which clocks in at 85.5cm tall. Eek. Double eek for the price tag: $1,249.

Nothing new, per se, but here’s former Wonder Woman artist Cliff Chiang talking about, among other things, going to watch Wonder Woman with Brian Azzarello.

Comic reviews

Two weeks have passed since the previous WWW (sorry, everyone) so there’s quite a few titles to look at. We’ve the latest issue of Wonder Woman itself, as well as the continuing travails – and habits – of Diana with the Justice League in Justice League #35. Trinity #16 sees our Diana musing on immortality, while the Amazon princess helps to save all the men of Gotham from being killed in Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #17. Lastly, Conan the Barbarian talks a surprisingly large amount about Diana, who is revealed as a bit of a lightweight in Wonder Woman/Conan #4. All that after the jump.
