Every Friday, TMINE lets you know when the latest TV shows from around the world will air in the UK

Not a huge number of acquisitions this week. Netflix acquired ORF (Austria)’s Freud, but that hasn’t even started filming yet, so I can’t tell you any more than the Hollywood Reporter can. Otherwise, the following acquisitions also came with airdates.

I missed this one as it started while I was on holiday, so all I can do is Wiki you:

Retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) is still haunted by the unsolved case of ‘Mr Mercedes’, who claimed 16 lives when he drove a stolen Mercedes through a line of job-seekers at a local job fair. Meanwhile, brilliant young psychopath Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway), the real Mr Mercedes, reemerges to focus his attention on Hodges. What begins as an online cat-and-mouse game between the two soon has deadly real-life consequences as an increasingly desperate Hartsfield becomes bent on leaving his mark on the world.

Apparently, it’s also based on Stephen King’s ‘Bill Hodges’ trilogy, with seasons two (on its way right now) and three following Finders Keepers and End of Watch.

Burden of Truth

Premiere date: Tuesday, August 14, 9pm

Big city lawyer Kristin Kreuk returns to her home town to defend a big corporation from accusations of having poisoned some teenage girls. However, Kreuk discovers something else is the cause and decides to remain behind to help the girls and find out why everyone still hates her family after all these years.

Actually not that bad and I might have carried on watching if my viewing schedule at the time had allowed it. Plus it actually does do some science now and then, rather than simply ask the audience to feel like something bad could be happening.

Every so often, TMINE flags up what new TV events BAFTA is holding around the UK

It’s early days for BAFTA in its usual incremental release of its timetable, so the most I can do is tell you that there’ll be one TV event on the first day of August hosted by BAFTA. There may be more to come or BAFTA might decide that there’s no point since everyone’s on holiday. No one will probably know until two days before, but I’ll let you know as soon as I know.

Preview: Black Earth Rising

A preview of the new BBC thriller followed by a Q&A with writer, director and producer Hugo Blick and actress Michaela Coel.

Playing out across the UK, Europe, Africa and the USA, Black Earth Rising explores the prosecution of international war crimes and the West’s relationship with contemporary Africa. The story follows Kate Ashby (Coel); rescued as a young child during the Rwandan genocide, she is adopted by Eve Ashby (Harriet Walter), a world class British prosecutor in international criminal law. Kate was raised in Britain and, now in her late twenties, works as a legal investigator in the law chambers of Michael Ennis (John Goodman). When Eve takes on a case at the International Criminal Court, prosecuting an African militia leader, the story detonates, pulling Michael and Kate into a journey that will upend their lives forever.

The eight-part series is made by Forgiving Earth Limited, a co-production company of Eight Rooks Limited and Drama Republic Limited. The series is co-produced by Abi Bach and executive produced by Greg Brenman for Drama Republic and Piers Wenger for the BBC.

Every week (or fortnight) At least once a month, Weekly Wonder Woman keeps you up to date on everything involving DC Comics’ premier superheroine

Just as TV news and new TV have dwindled to near-zero in the week of July 4, so too has anything involved a certain heroine occasionally known to wear a star-spangled costume. No movie news. No TV news. No comic news. Nada.

Well, okay, not quite nada. We’ve had Justice League #3, in which Scott Snyder’s galaxy brain emits ideas so huge, new dimensions have to be developed to accommodate them and readers have to write extensive notes in bra-ket notation in order to try to keep up.

As well as all manner of exciting inventions involving the Ultraviolet Lantern Corps (in Soviet Russia, you don’t join Ultraviolet Lantern Corps, Ultraviolet Lantern Corps joins you) and a whole bunch of new primary forces to accompany the Flash’s Speed Force (brace yourself for the Sage Force… no, really. It’s a thing), we got a few innovations involving our Diana.

There are exciting words about Diana’s attitude to her Lasso of Truth. Strung together, I’m not sure they make any more sense than they do apart, but they are at least exciting.

Very much more importantly, we have the return of an old friend. Now, maybe I missed something – and you’d think that writing this every week (or so) that would be unlikely – but last I looked, Diana didn’t have an invisible jet any more. And it couldn’t go underwater. And the Amazons were still warlike and didn’t have any cool technology. And Diana wasn’t in touch with them any more anyway.

But what trifles are these to Galaxy Brain?

Still, knowing his love of continuity, maybe this was all revealed in Doom Patrol Visit the Set of Coronation Street #45 (available as a free gift in packs of Turkey Twizzlers in Morrisons, Falaraki), and I really did miss it. Who reckons we’ll either that we’ll get an explanation for any of that or that it’ll ever get mentioned again by anyone else or even Snyder himself?
