Doctor Who Lego Dimensions gets a trailer

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on, but it all appears to be part of Lego Dimensions, which might be a movie and sees lots of different Lego worlds join together to fight something, maybe with the help of Community’s Joel McHale.

Didn't that other Lego movie use stop motion photography? I enjoyed that one… CGI Lego characters don't seem worth the CPU time.

  • The Lego Movie? Apart from the end title sequence and a couple of the sets, everything involving Lego in that is CGI, albeit CGI deliberately designed to look like stop motion, right down to scratches, fingerprints, etc.

But there are lots of other Lego movies that go straight to DVD, etc, and this looks stylistically the same.

  • I thought Dimensions was a game, not the next movie? Or did I miss something?

  • Probably. I've no idea!

  • Further to my last point (!), a lot of the Lego in-game footage end up being stuck together to create standalone movies (cf Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite). So it could be both

My understanding is that Dimensions is Lego's version of Skylanders, where you buy physical toys (or Lego sets, in this case) and 'scan' them to unlock them in the video game.

(Since 2011, Skylanders has exceeded $3 billion in sales and shifted over 175 million toys, so you can see why Lego would be interested in getting a slice of the action.)

They fooled me — all this time thinking it was stop-motion… duh 😉

Here's another take on the theme song:

  • Ah! Thanks!

Wow, that's… rather disturbing. (Although I agree with the sentiment).

My favourite version is the one halfway through this… 🙂
