A message to HBO from its female viewers: remember the member

There’s a certain inequality in TV nudity, even on cable. For example, HBO, despite showing rather a lot of female flesh, seems to have a hard time remembering to show an equal amount of male flesh. Here, some of its female viewers highlight examples of this disparity and offer a reasoned response.

Ha great and true… I might not watch HBO shows even if they address this but it is one contributing factor to why I stay away.

Of course, there used to be Oz…

  • It's common across all US networks except Starz to be fair, which merely has a slight inequality when it comes to female v male nudity, whereas HBO just doesn't do male nudity at all these days.

Watching the Masters of Sex at the moment. Want to guess how much male backside/genitals there is compared with topless/bare backside women?

This is silly. Showing penis is not equivalent to showing boobs. Showing penis would be equivalent to showing vagina, not the little bit of trimmed hair above it, but the actual thing. Genitals are genitals. HBO is consistent in showing neither.

HBO shows considerably more man-boob (and six pack) as it shows lady-boob, though it does show more female bottoms than male bottoms. Frankly, they're more balanced than you'd expect given that men find the sight of attractive nude females far more compelling than women find the site of attractive nude men. (And no, this is not up for debate: it's proven by both science and the market. The number of mags that show nude women for men is near infinite while the number that do the opposite is about one.)
