Liz Shaw’s Best Bits: Doctor Who and the Silurians

Liz Shaw in Doctor Who and the Silurians

We’re now over halfway through our low-budget, four-part series showing the best bits of premier Doctor Who companion Liz Shaw. Liz appeared during the first season of Jon Pertwee’s reign as the Doctor 40 years ago and is still unmatched when it comes to being the smartest, most assertive, most useful, most adult of all the Companions Who.

After last week’s look at her introductory story, Spearhead from Space, we look at what is the first of the “true” season 7 stories and the only one to really give the game away about the Doctor’s real name, Doctor Who and the Silurians. And since this is Liz Shaw’s best bits, I should point out that Liz Shaw uses science to save the entire human race from destruction by plague and takes control of a nuclear reactor – top that, Peri.

Random Acts of Ali Larter: Losing her knees

Ali Larter as Lemon Drop

This week, Ali Larter has lost her knees. Clearly, they’ve gone missing in the shot above, but if you recall from last week’s very random week, she’s on the cover of Lucky magazine this month and someone’s pointed out at Jezebel that they may have over-Photoshopped her – to the extent that her knees have gone missing.

Which is quite random, really, isn’t it?

But, hey, apparently, if you stick Ali Larter on the front cover of your magazine, your sales go up – which is why WWD calls her “old reliable”. Ain’t that nice?

Have you seen Ali Larter acting randomly? If so, let us know and we’ll tell everyone about it in “Random Acts of Ali Larter

Question of the week: what can’t you have in your DVD collection because it’s too good?

Some movies or TV shows are simply too good to have in your DVD collection. Consider, for example, Requiem for a Dream. It’s a deeply harrowing movie about four friends and relatives whose formerly happy lives collapse into absolute horror because of their drug addictions. TemplarJ and I came out the cinema when we saw it feeling deeply shocked and drained, it was so powerful.

Do I admire Requiem for a Dream deeply? Yes.

Do I want it in my DVD collection? No.

Ditto David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers. Brilliant movie but there’s no way on Earth I’d watch it again.

So this week’s question is:

Is there a movie or TV show that you can’t have in your DVD collection?
