Thursday’s “who will shoot JR?” news

British TV

US TV

Question of the week: do you watch ITV – at all?

A question mainly for UK viewers but if you’re overseas and know what’s on BBC and what’s on ITV – and haven’t been confused by BBC America – feel free to join in.

This week, we’re seeing the very slow beginnings of the Autumn schedule in the UK. Next week, the US will start cranking up as well, so get ready for a brace of reviews from me there. But you may have noticed nothing from me relating to the UK’s new shows, including the remake of classic series Bouquet of Barbed Wire, starring Trevor Eve. Surely I should have tuned in for that, huh – Trevor Eve, good; classic TV series, good?

Except it’s on ITV1 and the idea of watching ITV1 is up there with being attacked by ninja or operated on without anaesthetic: there will be pain and I will not enjoy it. True, occasionally something good might turn up – usually something in the crime genre, but even then, there’s still an Identity for every decent show – but it’s very occasionally. So I don’t watch ITV – at all – if I can avoid it. Am I alone in this?

So this week’s question is:

Do you watch ITV at all – even ITV2, ITV3 or ITV4? If you do, why? If you don’t, why? And is for a reality show or do you ever watch their comedies, documentaries (if you can find them) or dramas?

Sitting Tennant

Tuesday’s Sitting Tennant (week 32, 2010)

Erin C's Sitting Tennant

The long wait is over. August is done. The Sitting Tennant caption competition resumes. Well done for surviving a whole month without a new captionable picture. This is the stuff of legends, I tell you.

The first captionable Sitting Tennant of September has been provided by Erin C – well done to you Erin: have 10 points.

  1. Erin C: 220
  2. Rullsenberg, Sister Chastity: 210
  3. Toby: 145
  4. Rachel: 90
  5. Sabine: 65
  6. Karen: 35
  7. dreamer-easy: 30
  8. Dawn: 10
  9. kellyann06: 5

But in caption land, something was up. There were three pictures to caption so three lots of 10 points to hand out. Yet despite having a month to caption the pics and a choice to work with, only two people entered. What happened, people? Is the inspiration missing? Are you all burnt out? Don’t tell me we’re going to have to start putting in ones where he’s… standing up.

Whatever the reason for your absence – and let’s all hope it was “Being waylaid by an army of David Tennant clones” or even “I was sunning myself on a beach and not bothering with the Internet”, both of which are mighty fine and sensible excuses not to be taking part – let it be known that I hereby hand out a mighty 10 points to both Marie and Rullsenberg for their captions for picture 1 and an even mightier 20 points to Marie for her captions on pictures 2 and 3 – which nicely completes her little Chariots of Fire sprint to recapture the (joint) lead after her absence earlier.

Well done Marie – and best of luck to everyone this week!

UPDATE: My linking to the wrong ST on Friday might have something to do with the reduced caption count. Apologies to Toby and SK and anyone else who went to the wrong place. I’ve updated the scores below.

  1. Marie, Rullsenberg: 175
  2. Electric Dragon: 160
  3. Toby: 145
  4. Dani: 75
  5. Jane Henry, SK: 70
  6. ecg: 50
  7. Rachel: 45
  8. Sabine: 25
  9. whogal: 20
  10. kellyann06, Sister Chastity, Alex, Paul Ebbs: 10
  11. George, Joe B: 5

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below or email me and if it’s judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. Don’t forget to include your name in the filename so I don’t get mixed up about who sent it to me.

The best pic in the stash each week will appear on Tuesday and get ten points; the runners up will appear on Friday (one per person who sends one in) and get five points.

You can also enter the witty and amusing captions league table by commenting on Tuesday’s Sitting Tennant photo, the best caption getting 10 points, everyone who contributes getting five points.
