This week’s reviews

We’re back to our usual day this week for WHYBW, you’ll be glad to hear, although with the first few days of next week looking particularly busy, I reserve the right to relocate it again to Thursday.

Reviews-wise, over the past week I endured the first three episodes of Apple TV+’s See so you don’t have to and Orange Thursday covered Doctor Sleep (2019) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2018). But that’s been about it.

I did manage to watch the second season of Netflix’s Plan Cœur (The Hookup Plan) over the weekend, so hopefully I’ll be reviewing that some time in the next week. But it might just sit there, lurking in my memory, until there’s a lull in viewing, since this weekend’s looking particularly good…

What’s coming this week

Orange Thursday, tomorrow, will take in Netflix’s The Laundromat (2019), as well as whatever other movie I manage to watch tonight. Hulu’s Dollface is turning up on Friday, so I’ll try to watch that.

However, Lovely Wife has indicated she’d quite like to watch The Mandalorian (US: Disney+) at the weekend, but seeing as season 3 of Netflix’s The Crown is on the way then, too, I’ll try to get her to watch it before the weekend. Of course, she also wants to watch Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, so we’ll just have to see what comes out in the wash.

Whether once I’ve watched them I’ll be able to review any of them or whether I’ll simply be lying in an exhausted stupor at the start of next week will be an exciting voyage of discovery for us all.

The regulars

It’s the usual viewing queue again after the jump, with only Treadstone absent as I reviewed last week’s episode last week: Engrenages (Spiral), Evil, For All Mankind, Mr InBetween, Mr Robot, Silicon Valley, Stumptown, Titans, Total Control and Watchmen.

This week’s reviews

Oops. Yes, I know WHYBW is supposed to be on Wednesdays and Orange Thursdays on Thursdays. I didn’t forget. I just had to work late yesterday. Can you imagine that?

Anyway, it’s here now and tomorrow will be a slightly belated Orange Thursday, I hope. More on that in a mo, though.

This week, however, TMINE did manage to review for your delight all of season two of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and everything new kid on the block Apple TV+ has given us so far of For All Mankind.

Doctor Sleep (2019)

What’s coming this week

I’m going to try to do Orange Thursday, tomorrow, work willing. Up on the cinema bill is Doctor Sleep (2019) plus whatever I decide to watch tonight.

We’re a bit light for new TV shows this week, however, which means I’ll be turning my viewing eye over the weekend to consider some of the streaming backlog: Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, See and Dickinson; Amazon’s Modern Love; the second seasons of Netflix’s The Hookup Plan and The Kominsky Method; and season one of Beau Séjour (Belgium: Éen; UK: Walter Presents). Maybe I’ll only manage one show, but let’s aim for two.

I might also give the BBC a call and see if they’ll let me preview Vienna Blood. That might be nice, hey? It doesn’t start until the 25th, though, so I might wait. There’s probably an embargo, too.

But brace yourselves, because less than two weeks after the arrival of Apple TV+, we’re going to see another giant wade into the TV streaming pool next Tuesday in the US: Disney is plussing itself, too, to give us Disney+. That’ll offer us the likes of Star Wars: The Mandalorian amongst other things.

I’ll be reviewing that, I suspect.

HBO’s Watchmen

The regulars

Of last night’s TV, I’ve only watched Treadstone, so let’s save this week’s Stumptown to next Wednesday. Otherwise, with Evil taking Halloween off, this week’s viewing queue is: Engrenages (Spiral), Mr InBetween, Mr Robot, Silicon Valley, Titans, Total Control, Treadstone and Watchmen. And last week’s Stumptown.

See you after the jump, together with a brief reviewette of HBO’s Mrs Fletcher.

Impulse Season 2
Impulse

This week’s reviews

Since I took the radical move of having a day off on Friday (and most of Thursday), it’s been a slightly reviews-light week this week. However, I did cover the whole of season two of Impulse (YouTube), which you should definitely watch. Never mind the width – feel the quality.

The Morning Show
The Morning Show

What’s coming this week

The aforementioned day off meant I actually had some time to watch a couple of movies this week, so Orange Thursday tomorrow will be taking in both Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).

Friday is, of course, November 1, but it’s also the beginning of Fall 2019 – Part Three, since as well as Amazon giving us the second season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Apple is finally launching its Apple TV+ streaming service with no fewer than four new series: The Morning Show, See, Dickinson and For All Mankind.

Which of those will be Boxset Monday and/or Tuesday, I can’t say, but I suspect it’ll be either Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan or For All Mankind. Or both.

And I still might get round to watching season one of Modern Love (Amazon), season two of The Hookup Plan (Netflix), season one of Beau Séjour (Belgium: Éen; UK: Walter Presents) or season two of The Kominsky Method (Netflix).

Another new show starting within the next week is His Dark Materials (UK: BBC One), but I’ll probably skip that. You never know though.

The regulars

Bar Stumptown, which took a day off last week, too, it’s the usual usual after the jump: Batwoman, Engrenages (Spiral), Evil, Magnum PI, Mr InBetween, Mr Robot, Titans, Total Control, Treadstone and Watchmen. I also watched a couple of Star Trek: Short Treks. And joining all of them is the returning Silicon Valley.

That’s a lot, isn’t it? Time for a cull…

HBO (US)’s Watchmen

This week’s reviews

My iPad is repaired (more or less). Productivity has returned.

This week, I’ve reviewed three new shows: the first episodes of Treadstone (US: USA; UK: Amazon) and Watchmen (US: HBO; UK: Sky Atlantic), as well as the entire first season of Living With Yourself (Netflix). They were all pretty good shows, too, which was a bonus.

The Kominsky Method
Netflix’s The Kominsky Method

What’s coming this week

I’ve not watched any movies this week at all again. Sorry. More sorry – there’s not much new TV coming our way, although there are going to be a few new returning shows, at least.

That means Boxset Monday/Tuesday is going to be one of the usual intended suspects, I suspect: season two of Impulse (YouTube), season one of Modern Love (Amazon), season two of The Hookup Plan (Netflix) or season one of Beau Séjour (Belgium: Éen; UK: Walter Presents). Joining that crew is season two of The Kominsky Method (Netflix), so we’ll see how it goes.

Epix (US)’s Pennyworth

The regulars

It’s the usual usual after the jump: Batwoman, Evil, Magnum PI, Mr InBetween, Mr Robot, Stumptown, Titans and Total Control. With Pennyworth available as of today on StarzPlay in the UK, I thought I’d finish off the final two episodes in one go. I’ve even had time to watch three episodes of Engrenages (Spiral).

Let’s talk about all of them after the jump. Before that, guess which one has been promoted to the regulars list.

Nancy Drew
The CW (US)’s Nancy Drew

This week’s reviews

I miss my iPad. The screen broke a couple of weeks ago and although I had it repaired, they didn’t repair it properly, so I had to take it back again.

That means I’ve been confined to watching TV on my iPhone and not ‘co-browsing’ any more. Couple that with the “one connector so you can listen or charge but not both” syndrome and the crap battery life now available on my now old iPhone 7 and you can see my lack of iPad has been seriously cramping TMINE’s style – and review schedule.

However, over the past week, I’ve managed to review Nancy Drew (US: The CW) and season one of Raising Dion (Netflix), which ain’t bad. But as always, it’s the francophone TV that suffers in these things and I didn’t manage to watch either season two of Plan Cœur (The Hookup Plan) or any of that Beau Séjour on Walter Presents.

Oh well. Cometh the weekend, cometh the iPad, so hopefully I’ll be able to start watching more again.

Watchmen
HBO’s Watchmen

What’s coming this week

I’ve not watched any movies this week at all – thanks, broken iPad – but that does give me room to review Jason Bourne spin-off Treadstone (US: USA; UK: Amazon) tomorrow.

Competition for Boxset Monday/Tuesday is frenetic, however. Released today on YouTube is season two of Impulse, which I hope to watch, and coming on Friday are Paul Rudd comedy Living With Yourself (Netflix) and romance anthology Modern Love (Amazon). I suspect I’ll go with Living With Yourself, as it’s only 8×25 minutes, but let’s be surprised next week, hey? I might even watch The Hookup Plan or Beau Séjour.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, we’re finally be getting HBO’s Watchmen sequel series, so I’ll definitely be chatting about that on either Monday or Tuesday.

Conner and Krypto
Conner and Krypto in DC Universe (US)’s Titans

The regulars

I’d like to have watched Engrenages (Spiral), but no iPad, two episodes? I got 10 minutes in and decided it was up to the usual quality, but never had the chance to get any further. I never even got to see Audrey Fleurot, bar the ‘Précédemment dans Engrenages‘ at the beginning. Shame!

Cometh the iPad, cometh more Spiral.

That meant I had to stick to the new, stable, regulars list for now. After the jump, I’ll be talking about Batwoman, Evil, Magnum PI, Mr InBetween, Mr Robot, Pennyworth, Stumptown and Titans.

Lots of US TV, huh? But as always, the rest of the world has television we can watch. In Australia, a show called Total Control has just started. Dull name, hey?

But as we learned with Doctor Doctor – aka The Heart Guy – Australians do like to rename their shows for international audiences. So while Australian readers and I can chat about Total Control after the jump, by the time it hits UK screens, you’ll find we may have been talking about the far more excitingly titled Black B****.

See you in a mo.
