What’s on at We Are Cult’s 2019 one-day conventions? Including Andrew Marshall, Stephen Volk and Tiswas
Not one of the regular events that TMINE covers, I know, but We Are Cult has announced not one but two one-day conventions to be held this year in Bristol and Manchester. I thought some of you might be interested…
The first WE ARE CULT one-day convention
Since its launch in September 2016, We Are Cult has brought you the best in news, reviews, interviews and features relating to anything leftfield, wayward and independently minded in pop culture, with an accent on all things retro. Our following and social media response has proven that there is an audience for all things Cult, from mainstream to slipstream, and that niche is nice.
In 2019, We Are Cult is taking it to the next level, with its first convention, a one-day event in Bristol this June, where we will present a series of informal, intimate panels with writers, actors and creators from the worlds of cult film and television, including a few surprises along the way.
Guests are scheduled to include:
- Comedy writer Andrew Marshall (End Of Part One, 2 point 4 Children, Strange) in conversation with comedy historian Jem Roberts, biographer of Douglas Adams, Fry & Laurie and the ‘Blackadder’ saga
- A special screening with Doctor Who DVD and Blu-Ray documentary maker and Big Finish writer Chris Chapman
- We Sound Familiar, a comedy podcast from impressionists Peter Walsh, Elliott Crossley and Chris Walker-Thomson
- An interview with Stephen Volk, writer of Ghostwatch
- Artist Sophie Iles, whose work has appeared in DWM, BBC’s Anglophena’s DoctorWho TV, The Time Travel Nexus, Cosmic Masque & multiple charity works.
Your Master of Ceremonies will be Sam Michael, stand-up comedian and Kennet Radio DJ.

- A LIVE episode of Neil Perryman’s podcast series ‘Perfect Night In’ with writer Paul Magrs
- Writer Stephen Gallagher (Warriors Gate, Chimera) in conversation with Andy Murray (Into The Unknown: The Fantastic Life of Nigel Kneale)
- ‘TISWAS: PIE AND MIGHTY’, a tribute to the anarchic Saturday morning TV series hosted by stand-up comedian Pete Thomas of TISWAS ONLINE and with special guest Tiswas Bunny Boy Matthew Butler
- A free-form conversation ‘In Company’ with writers Louis Barfe (Where Have All the Good Times Gone?, Turned Out Nice Again, The Trials and Triumphs of Les Dawson) and Matt Owen (Danger Mouse, Lenny Henry In Pieces, 2DTV)
- The Ben Baker Quiz Explosion
- The Doctor Who Restoration Team’s Steve Roberts on the full story behind the BOTTOM:FLUFF outtakes video including a unique screening of the original BOTTOM FLUFF edit that got them the BBC Video.
