Thor: Ragnarok or The Incredible Hulk Returns – which will be better?

Thor: Ragnarok‘s out in UK cinemas today. In it, you’ll get to see Thor fighting both against and with The Incredible Hulk.

It’s not their first time, of course. You’re thinking of when Hulk let loose on the SHIELD carrier in The Avengers/Avengers Assemble aren’t you?

But there was a previous meeting. Back in the late 80s, Marvel was busily trying to launch all manner of superhero TV shows based on its comics. In particular, given that The Incredible Hulk had been an incredibly successful TV series in the 70s/early 80s, it decided to try to launch all manner of spin-offs off the back of some reunion movies for The Incredible Hulk. And The Incredible Hulk Returns was the movie chosen to try to create a Thor TV series.

Here’s a clip, in which Thor and the Hulk have a spat.

I’m reckoning that Thor: Ragnarok‘s going to be better. Call it a hunch.

Oscar season is rolling around, which is why we’re suddenly getting some good films in the cinema again. To remind Oscar voters of a certain summer blockbuster, Warner Bros has set up a Wonder Woman Oscars page. In with a chance? Well, you never know (particularly on some of the technical awards).

Meanwhile, the Justice League is apparently doing panto in Clacton on Sea this year, judging by this new poster. I wonder if Barry from EastEnders will be in it, too?

No Superman, you notice. NO ONE IS BEING FOOLED WARNER BROS.

However, all the focus is on the release of Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.

Unfortunately, it’s not going down well with William Marston’s granddaughter.

Oh well.

Comics news

We’re coming up to a momentous numbering moment: the 700th issue of Wonder Woman. Although we’re not doing a #600 and reverting to the serial numbering system, we are at least getting a celebratory cover from Tony Daniel:

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Music

Ever wondered what a Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross version of the Halloween theme would be like? Wonder no more

The theme to Halloween by John Carpenter is one of the most iconic movie themes out there. It’s simple and repetitive, but then so’s John Williams’ Jaws, so let’s be too judgey. Plus Carpenter makes it work, just as he does with all his other soundtracks.

That doesn’t mean other people can’t take a different slant on it. Take Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who have produced some truly great tunes and soundtracks of their own. Ross even made me believe Outcast might be better than it actually was, simply through his soundtrack. Reznor, of course, is Nine Inch Nails.

And now they’ve done their own version of the theme, just in time for Halloween. How thought

Justice League Trailer on Sunday

<NARRATOR: And the trailer did arrive on Sunday. With some of its friends>

First we got the teaser for the trailer.

Then we got the trailer.

And an international promo.

And a TV spot.

And an exclusive first look.

Still, at least Diana gets to hit things and smile a lot, hey?

Also getting a trailer, albeit one more recognisably of the comic book milieu, was Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.

Meanwhile, Gal Gadot was on Saturday Night Live, and you can see the highlights over here. Or just this highly relevant and important highlight:

And that, oddly enough, was all the news that’s fit to print. Maybe the Lasso of Truth needs recharging.

After the jump, we look at Wonder Woman #32, in which our Diana goes on a quest, albeit a very, very short one, and we solve last week’s mystery about her new hat.
