As per usual of late, Orange Thursday is aiming for both the high- and the low-brow this week, which means on aggregate TMINE is middle-brow. Sounds about right.

The two movies I’ve chosen to subject my retinas to are:

• The Personal History of David Copperfield (2020) – Armando Iannucci’s surprisingly comedic (and loose) Dickens adaptation
• X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) – ill advised attempt to have another go at the same source material that gave us X-Men 3, just with the X-Men: First Class cast.

And it’s a real mix of genres for Orange Thursday this week

• Knives Out (2019) – it’s Agatha Christie territory, as a noted author is murdered and only an eccentric detective can work out
• Angel Has Fallen (2019) – Gerard Butler saves another president’s life, only to be suspected of having tried to kill him, resulting in urban warfare

Hello! Welcome to Orange Thursday, the absolutely definitely every Thursday movie review slot on TMINE. I’ve been watching a job-lot of Cinema Paradiso DVDs over Christmas, as well as one or two movies at the cinema, so work-willing, I should be able to regale y’all with a double-bill of movie reviews every Thursday for the next month at least, maybe more, without having to watch even one more movie. And I’m going to see Jo Jo Rabbit on Saturday, so clearly I will.

This week, we’ve got one cinema movie and one streaming movie for you to enjoy:

• Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) – the last of the nine Star Wars movies
• 6 Underground (2019) – Netflix’s attempt to have an action movie franchise, starring Ryan Reynolds as a kick-arse tech billionaire.

It’s been nearly a month since the previous Orange Thursday, which is a bit pathetic but is testament to my general busyness. Anyway, it’s back… on Wednesday. This is largely because there was a bumper crop of new shows this week to glance at and since I haven’t had the chance to watch them all yet, I’ll be watching them tonight and covering them tomorrow in WHYBW. That means Orange Thursday has to come on a Wednesday.

This week’s double-bill is:

• Jumanji: The Next Level (2019): Sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
• The Philadelphia Experiment (2012): No, not that one.
