What have you been watching? Including Between Two Worlds and Corporate

It’s “What have you been watching?”, your chance to recommend to fellow TMINE readers anything you’ve been watching this week

Previously on TMINE

I did another one of those movie review things for Covideodrome: Aladdin (2019).

Next on TMINE

This is the last WHYBW before TMINE’s August break, so there’s no ‘next on TMINE’. I’m on holiday! I’ll update you about that tomorrow.

That isn’t to say, however, despite COVID-19, that there’s no new TV on the way over the next month, just that TMINE probably won’t be reviewing it. Season two of Umbrella Academy is available on Netflix from tomorrow. Apple TV+ is offering us Ted Lasso in a fortnight. Lovecraft Country is coming a bit after that to HBO.

But actually, that’s about it. You can see why I don’t really bother with August, can’t you?

Corporate

What TMINE has been watching

I’ve not been able to watch anything German this week for a change (sorry, Das Boot and Dark) but hopefully I’ll be able to finish them off over August, along with all the other regulars.

I’ve now reached the point where Robert Lindsay is the captain in Hornblower. He’s a tad hammy but can’t dampen the overall awesomeness of the show – and neither can those cheap ITV models.

It’s the usual regulars after the jump: Baron Noir, Brave New World, Condor, Doom Patrol, Stargirl and The Twilight Zone. I’ll also be looking at a new Australian show Between Two Worlds and you’ll be delighted to hear that Corporate is back.

See you in a mo.

Apparently Brits have no taste when it comes to what’s good on streaming services

Allegedly, according to this Infographic. I mean it only compares Netflix, Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video content* (sorry, Now TV, Acorn TV, iPlayer, SundanceNow, The Roku Channel et al), so it isn’t exactly comprehensive.

It’s also based on both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. You might as well look at entrails floating in a cesspit to find out the truth.

* “English-speaking original programmes from the past two years were looked at only, and did not include co-produced series, such as The Last Dance. 204 Netflix shows, 39 Amazon Prime shows and 20 Apple TV+ shows were analysed for the study.”

What TV’s on at BAFTA in August? Including Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm

Every Tuesday, TMINE flags up what new TV events BAFTA is holding around the UK

You’d think that after BAFTA’s stonking July line-up, it’d would be taking a break in August. But no! There’s yet another Zoom webinar lined up for everyone’s delectation.

TV Q&A: Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm

Wednesday, 12 August – 6.00pm

Q+A with director Hannah Berryman, producer Catryn Ramasut, editor Rupert Houseman and lead singer of The Charlatans, Tim Burgess.

50 years ago, deep in the Welsh countryside, two brothers were milking cows and preparing to take over the family farm – but dreamed of making music. They had the audacious idea to build a studio in their farmhouse attic and record their own tunes. Animals were kicked out of barns and musicians were moved into Nan’s spare bedroom. Inadvertently, they’d launched the world’s first independent residential recording studio: Rockfield.

Black Sabbath, Queen, Robert Plant, Iggy Pop, Simple Minds, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Coldplay and many more made mayhem and music at Rockfield over the decades. This is a story of rock and roll dreams intertwined with a family business’s fight for survival in the face of an ever-changing music landscape.

Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm is the debut documentary feature from director Hannah Berryman, produced by Catryn Ramasut from Welsh production company ie ie Productions for BBC.

Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm is available now to view on BBC iPlayer.
