Acquisitions

  • ITV has picked up Company Pictures’ remake of classic 70s ITV show Van Der Valk
  • Alibi has acquired Ten (Australia)’s My Life is Murder, which will hit UK airwaves some time in September
  • Channel Five has got its hands on another Australian show, SBS’s The Hunting, which will air some time this year
  • StarzPlay will be showing Epix (US)’s Batman prequel Pennyworth some time in the autumn
  • Walter Presents has picked up France 2’s Caïn (Detective Cain) for a September start

Orange Thursday: Κυνόδοντας (Dogtooth) (2009), Atomic Blonde (2017) and 47 Ronin (2013)

Last week, Orange Thursday didn’t happen, mainly because I was working. However, I had put the work in to find two movies to watch. I was only partially successful, however.

I had originally attempted to watch Atomic Blonde (2017), but I switched that off after half an hour on the general grounds it was unbearably bad.

So then I tried to watch 47 Ronin (2013), as Keanu Reeves has been having something of a revival of late and I fancied seeing what else he’d done relatively recently.

Turned out, that was even worse.

Still, that was two half-movies, which qualifies under Orange Thursday rules as one movie.

But then I remembered that JustStark had recently watched Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Favourite, which put me in mind to finally finish watching his first movie, Κυνόδοντας (Dogtooth) (2009). So I did.

As his latest drama, A Confession, airs on ITV in August, join writer Jeff Pope in conversation with journalist Caroline Frost as he takes us behind the scenes of the making of this new detective drama.

Starring Martin Freeman and Imelda Staunton, A Confession is based on the true story of Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who breached police protocol to catch a killer, costing him his career.

As the writer of dramas including Mrs Biggs, Little Boy Blue and Cilla, Jeff will also discuss highlights from his award-winning career. Filled with clips and stories, this promises to be an evening not to be missed.
