Except for viewers in Scotland

Since it is St Andrew’s Day today, apparently, to celebrate, I thought I’d share Armando Iannucci’s take on a familiar phrase that haunted many a BBC1 viewer during the 70s and 80s: “Except for viewers in Scotland.”

I just asked my daughter if she did anything for St Andrew's Day in primary school today. She's not aware of anything. It was a normal workday for me. I did do some research to find out if we're supposed to do anything, but there didn't seem to be much. Drunk Austrian girls get to cast spells naked and kick things, but we're not in Austria.

Streaming radio is good too. Yesterday I listened to stations from BBC Radio Cornwall to NPR from WKSU.

We did get around to the Let's Celebrate “St Andrew's Day” edition which did involve some kind of celebration in St Andrew's itself; it's less than an hour's drive from us, maybe it would have been fun to go. It's a strange programme, mostly fairly generic visiting a family doing the relevant thing, glued together by a strange cheery man who also views the stuff, if this one episode was representative. It certainly could have been more irritating.
