Review: Being Human (US) 1×1

Being Human (US)

In the US: Mondays, 9/8c, SyFy
In Canada: Mondays, 10E/P, Space

Do you see that headline? “Being Human (US)“. That’s a lie that is.

Because although everything up to now would have told you this was a US remake of the hit BBC3 show about a vampire, werewolf and a ghost house-sharing and coping with life together, this is actually a Canadian remake: it’s made by a Canadian production company in Canada.

Does that change your expectations? I have to confess it lowered mine. Sure, Canada now makes things like Being Erica, but it also makes things like The Listener and Lost Girl, and has a whole history of rubbish fantasy shows for us to point at and worry about.

Either way, you probably want to know what they’ve done to it to adapt it for the US (and Canada). Is everything identical, just set in America and with different actors? Or is this an altogether different show?

You probably also want to know if it’s any good. Follow me after the jump to find out. Once you’ve watched the trailer, that is.

What have you been watching this week (w/e November 19)?

Misfits - Season 2

Back again to its regular Friday slot, it’s “What have you been watching this week?”, your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week.

Thanks for helping out last week and stepping into the breach, everyone, as time stopped me from both watching TV and writing about it. But I’ve nearly caught up now. Sure, I’ve still got a backlog: BBC4’s marvellous ‘Glory of Greece’ season, The Trip, Boardwalk Empire and a few eps from this week such as Cougar Town, but I’m still ready to talk TV. So, after the jump, The Apprentice, Being Erica, Boardwalk Empire, Chuck, Community, Dexter, Hellcats, House, In Treatment, Life Unexpected, Misfits, Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Smallville, Stargate Universe, The Walking Dead and 30 Rock.

What have you been watching this week (w/e November 5)?

Back to its regular Friday slot, it’s “What have you been watching this week?”, your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week.

We’re still in the quiet period on Fox, but the other channels have been continuing with their usual output. So, after the jump, The Apprentice, Being Erica, Boardwalk Empire, Chuck, Dexter, In Treatment, Life Unexpected, Modern Family and Stargate Universe.

What have you been watching this week (w/e October 31)?

Gabriel Byrne in In Treatment

Boo. Happy Halloween. Bet you weren’t expecting this, it being a Sunday and all, but I was away on Friday and today’s catch-up day. So here’s “What have you been watching this week?” your chance to recommend to friends and fellow blog readers the TV that they might be missing or should avoid – and for me to do mini-reviews of everything I’ve watched this week.

This week, as well as being Fox’s traditional quiet period (so no House or Running Wilde), it’s also been Halloween week, with more or less every show giving us a special episode for the holidays. So, after the jump, random spookiness in The Apprentice, Being Erica, Boardwalk Empire, Chuck, Community, Cougar Town, Dexter, Hellcats, Life Unexpected, Modern Family, No Ordinary Family, Smallville, Stargate Universe and 30 Rock.

But I also gave Canada’s Men With Brooms a try and we also have the return of HBO’s In Treatment. Here’s a trailer for the third season, followed by a summary of the first two seasons, so you can get a better grasp of what the show’s like if you haven’t seen it, it being on HBO/Sky Arts n’all.
