Buckley’s ‘All producers live in Islington’ Hypothesis suggests that all TV producers live in Islington, because only people who live in Islington say things like “Of course, we don’t actually watch television. In fact, we don’t even own a television set. Ha, ha, ha!”
It was originally called ‘Buckley’s Crime Show Hypothesis‘, because it initially only applied to the producers of crime shows, who seem to think we don’t watch other crime shows and will therefore believe that CSIs investigate crimes, even when they never appear on other crime shows. However, the producers of House and Prison Break forced an expansion of the hypothesis to include all other shows. It remains the case that crime shows are the strongest adherents to the hypothesis, although thrillers are joining the mix, too.
