Review: Jerry Sadowitz at the Queen Elizabeth Hall

Jerry Sadowitz

Where: Queen Elizabeth Hall, London
When: 7.30pm. Sunday December 14th 2008
How long: Two hours
How much: £20/£25

Jerry Sadowitz (aka Jerry Sadowicz) is a paradox. His name’s easy to forget, yet once you’ve seen him perform, you never forget it. He’s a gifted comedian you almost never seen on TV. He’s also a talented close-up magician, yet is best known for his talent for offensive jokes.

Doing barely one or two gigs a year, Sadowitz isn’t famous. He’s had a few TV shows, including The Pall Bearer’s Revue, which got him the most number of complaints in television history at the time. But if you know him, you want to see him.

Provided you’re over 18, don’t have a sensitive disposition and don’t mind just the odd word swearword or two.

Sitting Tennant

Today’s Sitting Tennants (from Rosby and Rullsenberg): Hamlet and MFI

DT in Hamlet

DT's video diary - with shelves

Rosby’s back! Suddenly, Ms Rullsenberg’s yomp for the finish line doesn’t look quite as clear as once it did. Ms Rosby has provided us with an actual picture from Hamlet of the moment when DT realised he might be having problems and needed a bit of a lie down. Meanwhile, Rullsenberg shows us the moment when DT realised his flat was haunted – at least, I’m assuming that’s a poltergeist he’s just spotted.

Remember, kiddies, these are the last captionable pictures of 2008 and tomorrow, the results will be announced, so there’s everything to play for today.

The Sitting Tennant picture competition table now stands as follows:

  • Kiwi Rullsenberg: 13.5
  • Rosby: 10.5
  • Persephone: 6.5
  • Toby: 5
  • Poly, Scott: 3.5
  • Jane: 2.5
  • Anna, Electric Dragon: 1.5
  • Marie: 1

That just leaves tomorrow to see if Ms Rullsenberg has left enough pictures digital chez moi to cope with Rosby’s three in waiting. Or will someone send me and exciting batch of 20 pictures to take them into the lead from nowhere? Exciting hey?

The Witty And Amusing Captions league table remains as vibrant as always, and with people now heading off on their holidays, there could be some sneaky last minute manoeuvring that changes the leader board. The bonus points go to Persephone, whose agitprop caption, born from the depths of socialist, “Everyone should win a medal”, “Can’t we all be friends?” Canada, is also subtly topical, it turns out. Well done Persephone!

  • Toby: 44
  • Marie: 36.5
  • Jane Henry: 24.5
  • Persephone: 19
  • Rullsenberg: 14
  • Electric Dragon: 11.5
  • Rev: 11
  • Stu_N: 2
  • Poly, Andrea, Scott: 1

As always, captions and new submissions for the gallery, please. Remember, you can submit as many (witty) captions as you like for each and every picture, with topical captions (and pictures of David Tennant in current productions) getting extra marks. The wittiest caption for each picture will get double points.

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below and if it’s judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. You can also enter the witting and amusing captions league table by commenting on existing photos in the gallery.

Sitting Tennant

Today’s Sitting Tennant (from Rullsenberg): Measure For Measure

The advent Sitting Tennant competition continues, despite controversy among obvious communists and drug addicts who think that waxing lyrical about a sedentary Tennant every day or so is "too difficult" to manage. Pah. We’re made of sterner stuff than that, I think.

Today’s Sitting Tennant is yet another from now-obvious picture champion-to-be, Ms Rullsenberg, who’s still managing to maintain her lead despite being in New Zealand. If the will is there, any challenge can be overcome – well except for that white suit in the above picture from Measure For Measure.

The Sitting Tennant picture competition table now stands as follows:

  • Rullsenberg: 11.5
  • Rosby: 9
  • Persephone: 6.5
  • Toby: 5
  • Poly, Scott: 3.5
  • Jane: 2.5
  • Anna, Electric Dragon: 1.5
  • Marie: 1

The Witty And Amusing Captions league table sees much excitement. Prize for wittiest of the last bunch goes to Toby, who gets double points for ripping the piss out me (that’s not an invitation) in a caption for picture 1, and to Marie for a picture 2 caption – all achieved without the benefit of state hand-outs or methadone (I hope). Shameless former Bolshevik Persephone reveals her true colours as a recidivist, fifth columnist and kulak by deciding to take advantage of Rullsenberg being 17 hours ahead of her to jump into fourth place; meanwhile, Electric Dragon and Rev are reunited in sixth place, and new captioner Scott arrives on the scoreboard for the first. Welcome, Scott!

  • Toby: 38
  • Marie: 31.5
  • Jane Henry: 21
  • Persephone: 15
  • Rullsenberg: 14
  • Electric Dragon, Rev: 8

The final Sitting Tennant of 2008 will be on December 23rd when the results will be announced. Any ideas for prizes?
