When Carrie Bradshaw met The Dude

This year’s Superbowl is fast-approaching in the US, so expect a lot of high-profile, highly expensive ads to start hitting the YouTubes. First up, we have an unexpected meeting between Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw and The Big Lebowski‘s The Dude, both of whom have decided to forego their normal tipples in favour of Stella Artois this year.

This isn’t quite a one-off, as Carrie (well, Sarah Jessica Parker) also recently recreated the title sequence of Sex and the City for the company’s ‘Pour it forward’ clean water campaign:

Der Pass (Pagan Peak)
Airdates

When’s that show you mentioned starting, TMINE? Including Das Boot, The Umbrella Academy and Mayans MC

Every Friday, TMINE lets you know when the latest TV shows from around the world will air in the UK

Acquisitions

Not many acquisitions at all this week, although acquired this very day by Sky is Der Pass (Pagan Peak), which despite the name is actually the latest remake of Bron/Broen (The Bridge), this time by Germany and Austria. Bridge, Pass, Tunnel – I guess they’re all the same in the end, though.

Otherwise, everything has premiere dates.

Das Boot

Premiere dates

First up, just a mention that we have a new premiere date for Das Boot (The Boat) – Wednesday, February 6, 9pm, on Sky Atlantic. The rest are new dates, though:

Mayans MC

Mayans MC (US: FX; UK: BBC Two)
Premiere date: Saturday, February 2, 10.40pm

Spin-off from Sons of Anarchy about YA motorbike gang, this one not so white.

Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)
Premiere date: Friday, February 15

The Umbrella Academy tells the story of 43 infants who, on the same day in 1989, are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his ‘children’ to save the world.

Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

Based on the Dark Horse Comics title, it stars Ellen Page, Mary J Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe and Kate Walsh.

What’s on at We Are Cult’s 2019 one-day conventions? Including Andrew Marshall, Stephen Volk and Tiswas

Not one of the regular events that TMINE covers, I know, but We Are Cult has announced not one but two one-day conventions to be held this year in Bristol and Manchester. I thought some of you might be interested…

Ghostwatch

The first WE ARE CULT one-day convention

Since its launch in September 2016, We Are Cult has brought you the best in news, reviews, interviews and features relating to anything leftfield, wayward and independently minded in pop culture, with an accent on all things retro. Our following and social media response has proven that there is an audience for all things Cult, from mainstream to slipstream, and that niche is nice.

In 2019, We Are Cult is taking it to the next level, with its first convention, a one-day event in Bristol this June, where we will present a series of informal, intimate panels with writers, actors and creators from the worlds of cult film and television, including a few surprises along the way.

Guests are scheduled to include:

  • Comedy writer Andrew Marshall (End Of Part One, 2 point 4 Children, Strange) in conversation with comedy historian Jem Roberts, biographer of Douglas Adams, Fry & Laurie and the ‘Blackadder’ saga
  • A special screening with Doctor Who DVD and Blu-Ray documentary maker and Big Finish writer Chris Chapman
  • We Sound Familiar, a comedy podcast from impressionists Peter Walsh, Elliott Crossley and Chris Walker-Thomson
  • An interview with Stephen Volk, writer of Ghostwatch
  • Artist Sophie Iles, whose work has appeared in DWM, BBC’s Anglophena’s DoctorWho TV, The Time Travel Nexus, Cosmic Masque & multiple charity works.

Your Master of Ceremonies will be Sam Michael, stand-up comedian and Kennet Radio DJ.
