April at the BFI

Normally, I’d have done a rundown on what’s on at the BFI in April by now. Unfortunately, I’ve just realised, I think during my house move, the latest brochure must have gone astray or not got delivered. Or I threw it out.

Anyway, I’ve had a look through the online version and there’s not much for TV lovers in April, by the looks of it, apart from a season dedicated to documentary series Monitor. Doesn’t really float my boat, but it might float yours.

The only other thing is that there’s going to be a showing of Marty, on Wednesday 22nd April, accompanied by a Q&A with star Ernest Borgnine. Off you go, Airwolf fans!

Sitting Tennant

Today’s Sitting Tennant (from Rullsenberg, Sister Chastity and Jaradel): Comic Relief

Ms Rullsenberg's entry

David Tennant on Comic Relief

Gosh. It seems that nothing can excite fans of David Tennant in a sedentary position more than him in a white suit, pulling faces for charity. Within a matter of minutes of Comic Relief last Friday (although, in some cases, the number of minutes was as high as 8,000), Mesdames Rullsenberg and Jaradel as well as Sister Chastity were seeking to wow the world and dominate Sitting Tennant with pictures of one of its hosts – clue, not Davina McCall.

In fact, we have so many Comic Relief pics, I’ve had to ration our submitters to one each per Sitting Tennant, so we might have to have a mid-week Sitting Tennant next week. Would that be popular? Let me know.

Anyway, with topicality bonuses, that gives us the following picture leaderboard:

  1. Rullsenberg: 12.5
  2. Jaradel: 8.5
  3. Sister Chastity: 4.5
  4. Rosby: 2.5

Alas, it seems not even David Tennant’s ‘o’ face is enough to wake Rosby from her coma. Oh well.

Back at the cut and thrust of the captioning competition, Marie got bonus points for wittiest (and maybe very slightly scary) caption for picture 1 while Electric Dragon came through against stiff competition for picture 2. Toby nearly lost marks for a groan-inducing pun, but I felt merciful and stayed his execution at the last minute.

That means we’ve had a couple of position reversals, with Electric Dragon charging (ho ho. Oh crap. A pun. What have I become?) past Rev “still huddled round a candle at his new house” Views and Ms Rullsenberg leaving Persephone behind in the underworld without so much as a glance behind her to see if she’s okay.

  1. Marie: 39.5
  2. Toby: 36
  3. Jane Henry: 32.5
  4. Rullsenberg: 26
  5. Persephone: 24.5
  6. Jaradel: 19
  7. Electric Dragon: 11
  8. Rev/Views 10
  9. Scott: 3
  10. Aaron: 2

As always, captions and new submissions for the gallery, please. Remember, you can submit as many (witty) captions as you like for each and every picture, with topical captions (and pictures of David Tennant in current productions) getting extra marks. The wittiest caption for each picture will get double points. And there’s a bonus point for using Gary Numan lyrics appropriately.

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below and if it’s judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. You can also enter the witting and amusing captions league table by commenting on existing photos in the gallery.

What have you been watching this week?

A new thing for the blog, which if it pans out could become a weekly Friday feature: What have you been watching this week?

The idea here is simple. Rather than having me gas on about what I’ve been watching, as I normally do, you tell me what you’ve been watching and would recommend to other people (or would recommend other people didn’t watch) – if you’re feeling radical, you can recommend/unrecommend books or movies, too.

This needn’t be a full review, mind: a line or two may do. But if you fancy a full review or you’ve reviewed your recommendation/anti-recommendation on your own blog, you can always leave a link to that too, preferably with a brief explanation of the show so people know why they should go read your review.

What do people think? Is this a goer or a dumb idea?

Today's Joanna Page

Joanna Page hosting the Paul O’Grady show in April

Exciting news from Mark at comedy.org.uk which I’ve negligently forgotten to blogroll until now. Somehow he spotted the occasional Joanna Page theme to the blog and has been kind enough to let me know that Joanna Page is  going to be hosting The Paul O’Grady Show for a one-off special in April, being recorded a week on Monday:

200903200951.jpgStepping into THE PAUL O’GRADY SHOW hot seat for one afternoon in March will be JOANNA PAGE, star of the BBC’s hilarious GAVIN & STACEY! As always, there will be a feast of teatime treats, some of the biggest names in showbiz as guests and Paul’s regular ‘family’ of reporters from all around the nation.

This special one-off show is pre-recorded for broadcast in April, when Paul will take his well-deserved break during the series.

RECORDING ON Monday 30th March @ 12.30pm, The London Studios, Upper Ground, SE1 9LT
