Sitting Tennant

Today’s Sitting Tennants (from Rullsenberg, Jaradel and Sister Chastity)

David Tennant in Planet of the Dead

David Tennant on BBC News

Ta da. As if by magic, Sitting Tennant appeared. What costumes will he be wearing today?

In Ms Rullsenberg’s entry, he appears to be wearing a bear costume, so clearly getting ready for a circus adventure then. In Ms Jaradel’s entry, he’s wearing the world-recognised uniform of a ‘micro-tiddlywinks’ player, complete with high-powered magnifying spectacles. While in Sister Chastity’s (welcome back! I do hope your period of penance is over) photo, he’s clearly trying to be a journalist – note the "pulled through a hedge backwards look" and the fake BBC News logo for verisimilitude.

With a bonus half-point to Jaradel for topicality (final week for Planet of the Dead topicality bonuses), that gives us the following leader board

  1. Rullsenberg: 17.5
  2. Jaradel: 14.5
  3. Sister Chastity: 12.5
  4. Rosby: 2.5

At witty caption central, it was an age of firsts. Marie finally got a bonus Gary Numan caption point (if at first you don’t succeed, etc), Jaradel got her first wittiest caption point for picture 1, jointly with Toby, who, in another first, also got the wittiest caption point for picture 2. Which means, once again, that Toby and Marie swap places at the top. It’s a true clash of titans, although hopefully not Clash of the Titans.

  1. Toby: 82
  2. Marie: 80
  3. Jane Henry: 50.5
  4. Rullsenberg: 45.5
  5. Persephone: 38.5
  6. Jaradel: 33.5
  7. Electric Dragon: 15
  8. Rev/Views 10
  9. Scott: 3
  10. Aaron: 2
  11. almostwitty.com: 1

As always, captions and new submissions for the gallery, please. Remember, you can submit as many (witty) captions as you like for each and every picture, with topical captions (and pictures of David Tennant in current productions) getting extra marks. The wittiest caption for each picture will get double points. And there’s a bonus point for using Gary Numan lyrics appropriately.

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below and if it’s judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. You can also enter the witting and amusing captions league table by commenting on existing photos in the gallery.

David Simon’s original pitch to HBO for The Wire

A little bit of history for you: David Simon’s original pitch to HBO for The Wire has emerged and been posted online.

Here’s how Stringer Bell was originally considered, for example:

STRINGY BELL – black, early forties, he is BARKSDALE’s most trusted lieutenant, supervising virtually every aspect of the organization. He is older than BARKSDALE, and much more direct in his way, but nonetheless he is the No. 2. He has BARKSDALE’s brutal sense of the world but not his polish. BELL is bright, but clearly a child of the projects he now controls.

Fascinating stuff.

What have you been watching this week (w/e 17th April)?

Time once again for your television recommendations/discommendations of the week? Anything good been on? Anything bad make you want to wash your eyeballs?

Been a little bit too busy to watch much TV this week, and I’ve a bit of a backlog to work my way through, but I would say they’d better be kidding about the ending of this week’s 24 in a double/treble-bluff sort of way or else the best season of the show so far has just gone to pants. And wasn’t the ending of House this week… odd?

PS No spoilers unless you’re going to use the <spoiler> </spoiler> tags, please? Ta!

Playing catch up: iPlayer on the Wii

I’ve only had a Wii for five months* and the option’s been there for a year, apparently, but it’s news to me that you can watch the BBC’s iPlayer on the Wii, so I thought I’d belatedly pass the word.

I haven’t tested it yet, and it’s not as good quality as you can get on a PC, since the Wii has an old version of Flash, but all the same, much better to be able to watch it on your TV than huddled round a computer.

* Bought at my wife’s insistence, I would point out, since games consoles and working from home don’t mix unless you’re a games journalist/professional games player
