Weekend Who and Torchwood news

Robot Santas

Doctor Who and Torchwood stuff from the weekend:

  1. Cardiff council’s TARDIS flower display is to appear at the Chelsea Flower Show.
  2. John Barrowman’s named the day and place where he’s getting married: surprise, surprise, it’s the St David’s Hotel and Spa.
  3. The time slot for the Christmas episode of Doctor Who, The Runaway Bride, is going to be announced today. More importantly, the Beeb has confirmed that plans for series four are now underway, the 2007 Annual is going to be more popular than The Beano’s, and retailers have sold out of the Cyberman voice-changing mask.
  4. There’s still been no confirmation of a second season for Torchwood, according to John Barrowman. But Captain Jack will be in three of the four final episodes of the next series of Doctor Who. Barrowman also admits Captain Jack’s personality changes according to which show he’s in…

The Nine dropped

It’s a pile of old rubbish that managed to get good reviews somehow, yet The Nine has just been pulled from the schedules. Looks like it’s doomed, then. Oh dear.

Digital Spy, incidentally, now has a handy guide to the current US schedules that shows UK viewers exactly which channels will be showing the current crop of shows come January. One I didn’t know about: What About Brian, now on its second season, has been picked up by Channel 4 (I’ve heard it’s dull – anyone want to comment?). And Trouble seems to have picked up everything The CW couldn’t persuade bigger networks to buy.

Interview with a Big Finish writer

The Cumberland News, always on my daily reading list, has an interview with Michael Spencer, one of the writers of the new BBC7 Doctor Who radio plays. He also has a script lined up for Colin Baker in the regular Big Finish run.

I did like this quote: “On a typical day Michael gets up at 9am and works for two to three hours after breakfast, before succumbing to ‘the writer’s worst enemy’ – the internet.”

I know what that’s like…
