Sitting Tennants 2008: The results

Posted on December 23, 2008 | 4 comments |

Well, it's the moment quite a lot of you have been waiting for: who's won the 2008 Sitting Tennant competition? Has Rosby done enough to beat Rullsenberg's lead? Has Toby's captioning skill proven unassailable.

Follow me after the break to find out the results – and to see lots of pictures of David Tennant sitting down.

First, the pictures themselves. We have a whole host of them to look at, care of Persephone, Rullsenberg and Rosby. Here's Persephone's, which is from Hamlet and which she claims is of the moment David Tennant's back gave way:

Next, we have three pictures from Rosby from LA Without A Map.

Good work, Ms Rosby. But is it enough to catch Ms Rullsenberg? Here's her stash:

So that means the pictures leaders' board for the Sitting Tennants of 2008 stands as follows:

  • Rullsenberg: 16.5
  • Rosby: 13.5
  • Persephone: 8
  • Toby: 5
  • Poly, Scott: 3.5
  • Jane: 2.5
  • Anna, Electric Dragon: 1.5
  • Marie: 1

Which means Ms Rullsenberg is the winner! Kudos to her. What do you think she should get as a prize?

Now time for the wittiest caption section. It's been a tough fight all year, with Marie and Toby slugging it out for top place. Marie's early departure for Africa meant a full-blooded final wasn't to be had, but it was a worthy battle all the same. Jane Henry managed to come up with a phenomenal number of captions, as well as the wittiest one for picture 1, while Persephone came in with the best caption for picture 2.

That means the final leaders board is ranked thusly:

  • Toby: 50
  • Marie: 36.5
  • Jane Henry: 32
  • Persephone: 22
  • Rullsenberg: 14
  • Electric Dragon: 11.5
  • Rev: 11
  • Stu_N: 2
  • Poly, Andrea, Scott: 1

Which makes Toby the triumphant winner. Again, suggestions for a prize other than a night out with David Tennant?

Well done to everyone who competed: you've delighted and entertained many, many people, including some 12 year olds. Sitting Tennant will begin again in the New Year, so start submitting your pics now. Feel free to comment on these pictures by the way, but remember, it's just for fun.

Also, given we had the slight advent rule change towards the end, how would you improve Sitting Tennant without making it too complicated? Limits on captions or number of captions? Rules on what photos can go in? Or is Sitting Tennant perfection itself already?

Let me know.

Got a picture of David Tennant sitting, lying down or in some indeterminate state in between? Then leave a link to it below and if it's judged suitable, it will appear in the “Sitting Tennant” gallery. You can also enter the witting and amusing captions league table by commenting on existing photos in the gallery.

I am humbly honoured, even though I feel neither caption is my best work (which one won, anyway?). I was always rather proud of the one I came up with for Tennant Tossing the Skull back in July. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled even to be in the company of such intrepid and prolific captioneers. Thank-you. Thank-you.

Oh, I don't want to be that greedy - and I don't want Marie out for revenge! Stick his hand in that tissue replicator and conjure up another Doctor's Daughter, and I'll be happy!

Hey Rob. Am deeply honoured to have had a caption pronounced the wittiest in the face of such stiff opposition. In fact I was so intimidated by said stiff opposition it took me ages to pluck up courage to join in. But as you've noticed, once started I don't STOP.

Thanks so much for the huge laughs involved in Sitting Tennant. Sitting with the 12 year old and watching her response to both pictures and comments was a deep joy. As it's been a bit of a stressy week, having a ST to think about every day has been lots of fun.

Looking forward to more mayhem in the New Year!

Well, I'm sorry I missed the actual announcement - I was on no-blog no-online activity secondment in New Zealand -- hence the stash I sent in.

    Sorry Rosby, gallant effort.

And what do I win for my labours? Well, the news that in my absence David recovered enough to perform starting with the night my friend attended (Sat 3rd Jan) pretty much sums up what I get for trying hard at anything...

Here's to more Tennants, sitting or otherwise.
