Here's news – ironically. Charlie Brooker's recent BBC4 Newswipe pastiche of generic news reports has become the highest rate YouTube video ever (allegedly).
Accurate, isn't it?
He's popular, that Charlie. My upload of his exhortation to everyone to watch The Wire from three and a half years ago still gets about five comments a day.

Charlie Brooker's You Have Been Watching started on Channel 4 last night. I won't bother with a review: it was pretty good, I thought, but I think we're getting a bit meta when we start reviewing shows that review shows.
But it was gratifying to see that he picked up on, Deadliest Warrior, which I nominated at the start of last month for the title of the stupidest TV programme ever. There weren't any clips available on YouTube at the time, but there are now, since in case you missed it – and it's still on 4oD if you want to give it a whirl – here's the match you've all been waiting for: the IRA vs the Taliban, handled as tastefully as you'd expect from Spike TV.
I think it's fair enough to say we do loves a bit of Charlie Brooker round here. I think it's fair to say that's quite a common feeling.
But I think it's also fair to say that he's spreading himself a bit thin. He's writing two columns for The Guardian a week; he's on Have I Got News For You every so often; he's got his regular Screenwipe show on BBC4; he's got an upcoming TV reviews show for Channel 4; he's just finished making Dead Set for E4.
Phew. That's a lot.
Now he's doing Newswipe for BBC4, in which he tries to tell you the news of the week, but really - as the show's title suggests - is really just Screenwipe but dedicated to TV news.
And it's really not very good. See? Spread too thin.
Screenwipe's Charlie Brooker is bringing his inimitable style and humour to a new comedy show for Channel 4 in which Charlie, along with his special guests, will cast their eyes over the week's TV, both home grown and from around the world. Expect Charlie to be his unique and knowing self - and a night of hilarity that really will make you question what you watch!
The show will be recorded at BBC TV Centre this Friday, 30th January 2009.
Booking is now open for the show which will be recorded at BBC TV Centre, Wood Lane, London W12 7RJ at 7.00pm on Friday 30th January 2009. If you'd to join us, then apply now!
About the blog
This is a UK media blog with daily news, views, exclusive reviews and good conversation. There's a bit of a bias towards the latest and greatest US TV, but we also cover British TV ranging from new Doctor Who to old Z Cars, Property Ladder to Big Brother, and BBC4 to S4C – yes, this blog is firmly part of the conspiracy to promote all things Welsh where possible, particularly Caerdydd.
Add in film, theatre, art, books, events and media journalism and you've (hopefully) got one of the best places on the web for media lovers. Oh yes, and there's The Carusometer, the ultimate guide to quality TV.
About me
I'm Rob Buckley, a freelance journalist who writes for UK media magazines that most people have never heard of. I've edited Dreamwatch, Sprocket and Cambridge Film Festival Daily; been technical editor for trade magazine Televisual; reviewed films for the short-lived newspaper Cambridge Insider; written features for the even shorter-lived newspaper Soho Independent; and contributed sarcastic articles about television to the blink-and-you-missed-it "web site for urban hedonists" The Tribe. I'm freelance now and have contributed to the likes of Broadcast, Total Content + Media, Action TV, Off The Telly and TV Scoop. Have pity on me.
