Since you had to mention "Twilight", my hatred for it now blinds me to any other possibilities I might have suggested. That movie had me squirming in my seat, I hated it so much!

I've never been a fan of James Bond movies, being more interested in the LeCarre style of spies than Ian Fleming's, but I don't hate the franchise. I imagine the Harrison Ford series of Jack Ryan films are pretty good, but for me Ryan is Alec Baldwin in Hunt For Red October (Not a fan of recastaways), but I don't think I'd hate them if I saw them.

Great question, but I think you've already pegged the best example.

Oh, wait a minute! In general, horror franchises! The Saw movies, the Friday the 13th films. I don't even have to see them to know that I would hate them! Okay, there's my pick, especially the Saw films.

Doctor Who - used to be a great TV series then an often excellent book series, with sideways glances at the exceptional comic strip. But one by one it's been replaced by an often dreadful tv series, a frequently crappy book series and a right up itself comic strip.

Bah humbug...

Rob. Anyone who isn't a 13/11 year old girl would hate Twilight. I have actually read the first two books. Thought the first one was far too long and only got exciting for the last quarter. But it's full of teen angst about falling in love which is of course why my girls love it. Found it tedious beyond belief. I actually enjoyed New Moon much more. She does write page turners, and the werewolf/vampire love triangle was fun. I think I was more in the werewolf camp myself, he is at least the right age... Hated the film, but might be obliged to see New Moon as the 11 year old can't go without me. Oh bugger. Having said all that, I know why it's successful, but if I had my editor's hat on I'd do a whole lot of pruning...

I hate Tracey Beaker on TV. Books are ok, but the TV Tracey is a mouthy bolshy cow who teaches kids that being rude to grown ups is ok. Of course, she has reasons for her behavour, but the kids don't see that, just pick up on the bad behaviour. Grr.

Have never been able to stand Last of the Summer Wine. Find its cosy humour slightly smug. Don't get it at all.

I love horror films but Saw is a bit too much even for me, so I'm with Toby on that one.

Twilight - check (much prefer Kelley Armstrong jan Henry, I'd recommend at least the early ones of those)
Saw movies - check (nasty trash)

My personal loathing are all those book franchises bearing a person's name but where that name has long since died or moved on and merely glances at the text promoting their name. You know exactly the sort I mean. I read 'Flowers in the Attic' many moons ago, but gah, the line deteriorated fast.

I just think such things demean the concept of an airport book. try a frothy Lawrence Block burglar book if you want a page-turning plane read.

There are so many! Stargate springs to mind, but to be fair I've seen so little of it that it's a prejudice I can't back up with anything other than an instinctive dislike of US 'military porn' sci-fi. I hate 'Saw' (again though, I've only seen one a half of them), mainly because it seems to be the sort of thing that idiots think of as 'clever'.
But the clear winner will always be the retarded offspring of Star Trek.

Vampires that don't have sex? Ridiculous.

Also, all torture porn. And ... anything with Courtney Thorne-Smith, of course.
