I think you might be being a bit harsh on Gavin and Stacey on account of being spoilered. I didn't get to it till over a week later on account of my Christmas being spoilered by much vomiting, and found it fantastically light relief. Best Christmas watching for me (apart from perhaps Crooked House which I loved, but won't spoiler!) - I thought it had wit, warmth, humour, pathos and loved all the undercurrents with Smithy and Ness. I also thought they captured perfectly all that Christmas awkwardness that occurs in families - particularly Dave Coaches taking over Smithy's role as dad. That was really well observed I thought. As was Bryn being the only one to speak to the old woman as if she were a human being (mind you for all sorts of reasons that struck chords with me)

Think they've set up series 3 well. It may well be that I was looking at it through rose tinted glasses though as I was in need of some warm cheery kind of TV!

Dr Who I enjoyed on the whole, but not my favourite Christmas special ever. But did like the David Morrisey Tardis and sonic screwdriver.
