Original Superstars was brilliant because it was current top sportsmen competing and making complete tits of themselves (Kevin Keegan falling off the bike, that cheating bastard Jody Schecter putting oil on his soles in the gym tests so he could do faster squat thrusts) — and the following week Keegan would be turning out for Liverpool and Schecter would be trying to drive someone off the track in Monza. You couldn't do that these days, because no top sportsman would risk getting injured doing something trivial.

(Unless you're Rio Ferdinand, and you knacker your ankles by putting your feet up to play video games.)

So they're only going to be able to use retired sportspeople, and even then, they can't get many of them, so they have to keep using the same ones. Which means this is Dad TV, so it's competing with Top Gear, so it's doomed.
