          <description><![CDATA[<p><b>Despite various attempts (eg Doctor Who) to convince us that geek chic is in, the general British culture is anti-geek.</b></p>

<p>Does <i>Doctor Who</i> do that these days?  I mean, the Doctor has picked on Mickey for not being sufficiently masculine when screaming ("School Reunion"), he's eschewed dull and tedious labwork in favour of waving a sonic screwdriver in the general direction of a problem, and generally ponces about like someone to whom the universe owes respect (and probably protection money).</p>

<p>Geek chic?</p>
