Comment from Rob Buckley

I was at university when I first watched them, when they got a rare repeat on the now-defunct Carlton cable channel. I was pal-ish with Andrew Pixley at that time and since he didn't have Carlton+ (or whatever it was called), he asked me to tape them for him.

And thus my addiction to The Sandbaggers, because it was just so good. In return, I got to see a load of black and white episodes of Callan, so it was a double-treat for me.

I've had the Region 1 DVDs for a year or two now, so I'm glad they're finally coming out on PAL and that everyone else can share my - our - addiction, too!

Dunno if you're a comics person, but the Oni Press series Queen and Country was inspired by The Sandbaggers and is a brilliant read. Writer's an Anglophile American and a lovely bloke. Q&C has several stories out in book form, as well as two novels (and I think there's talk of a film, too).

I was a huge Callan fan. It'd be great to see an updated version --?Ǭ†there hasn't been a decent British TV anti-hero since Fitz in Cracker.

Randomly late comment guys, but Stu_N, I thought you may want to know that we've been reading Q&C in graphic novel form (vols 1-3). How great to stumble back on your comment here again just after finishing v3! (they're great by the way and I feel inclined to get some of the novels out the library too)
