No more Wonder Woman reviews… for now

So normally, around this time, I'd review the latest DC comics that feature Wonder Woman. These usually include Wonder Woman and Justice League, and what with the new super-romance, Superman, as well as various other miscellaneous titles.

Now, reviewing them takes up much more time than it used to and with DC's schedule all over the place, trying to recap them all each month has become harder and harder, particularly since my own work schedule has been all over the place and incompatible with DC's.

More than that, my heart's not really in it. The comics are largely fine (although problematic at times, particularly Injustice: Gods Among Us), but I'm just not loving them anymore and some egregious things have been done since the start of the new 52. So I've decided today that I'm going to stop reviewing them. I'll keep reading them, though, and I might return at some point to reviewing them, since the web stats say this is actually one of the most popular features of the blog.

So let me know if you'd like me to continue, let me know below and if enough people ask, I'll get back to reviewing them. If no one's interested, then TTFN WW.

Ta,

Review: Wonder Woman #19/Justice League #19/Superman #19/Injustice: Gods Among Us #12-17/Justice League of America #1-3

In keeping with this 'ere blog's slightly unplanned 'pagan week', it's time for the (increasingly belated) monthly round-up of the comic-book appearances of everyone's favourite pagan superheroine, Wonder Woman.

After March's month of face-palming, April proved to be a somewhat better month for our Wondy, with the Amazon princess finally giving Orion the punching he deserved in Wonder Woman #19, going to Lois Lane's house-warming and giving her new secret identity, Diana Prince, its first real outing in Superman #19, and trying to set the world to rights by kicking terrorists' asses with her new boyfriend in Justice League #19. Unfortunately, though, it looks like nothing can save Injustice: Gods Among Us from being facepalm-central.

I'm also adding to the roster of comics: after trying to save my pennies, I've had to play catch up with Justice League of America #1-3, seeing as Diana features quite heavily. Kind of. And all I'll say about that that not-so-illustrious title until after the jump is "What the hell is Catwoman not wearing?"

Review: Wonder Woman #18/Justice League #18/Superman #18/Injustice: Gods Among us #8-11

It's time, once again, for our monthly round-up of all things Wonder Woman in comics. And what a month, because despite the end of the H'El on Earth storyline in Superman/Supergirl/Superboy and the crossover in Batwoman, it's been… well, maybe not momentous, but whatever it's been, I'm not sure I have enough hands for the facepalms required to deal with it all.

Wonder Woman #18 sees the end of the hunt for Zola's baby (finally); Justice League #18 mostly has Wonder Woman alternating between standing around a lot and hitting things; Superman #18 is Wonder Woman-free yet has referenced our heroine rather a lot thanks to the arrival of Orion; and in Injustice: Gods Among Us, it's all out war between the superheroes and everyone else, including each other, with Wondy standing by her man.

Which ones required the most facepalms? I'll give you a clue: it's fortunately the only one where Wonder Woman is literally flirting with Superman over Lois Lane's dead body.

Review: Wonder Woman #17/Justice League #17/Batwoman #17/Supergirl #17 et al

Sorry for the slightly later than normal review - I was holding out for Superman #17 and the end of the H'el on Earth storyline (guest starring the Justice League and Wonder Woman), which was supposed to come out this week… but didn't. Guess that'll have to wait until next time.

But February was a bit of a bumper month for Wonder Woman. As well as her own title and the end of the Throne of Atlantis storyline in Justice League, H'El on Earth has seen her show up in Superboy #17 trying to save Superman; in Supergirl #17, she's once and for all proven the inequality Wonder Woman > Supergirl > Superman; her rather dreadful crossover with Batwoman finally comes to an end in Batwoman #17; Injustice: Gods Among Us #5-6 give us a possibly inappropriately flirty, possibly political Wonder Woman; and in Young Romance #1, Supes and Wondy go on another date together, which naturally goes pear-shaped.

Dear DC Comics, Please hire some proofreaders

I'll do it for you if you pay me. I mean, let's start with this week's Catwoman #16. How are we spelling 'assault' here?

Okay, that's just a relatively minor problem compared to some of the other typos in this week's comics. Let's move on to Aquaman #16. I appreciate Mera and Arthur (aka Aquaman) are underwater, but I really don't think that's the effect you're trying to achieve in spelling your main character's name wrong.

And then lastly, we have this in this week's Superman #16. As if to add further insult to the injury of her being described as merely Superman's 'current lover' in the next panel (yet more rebellion by Superman's writers? The suggestion that it's not going to last?), veering away from current DC shorthand ("the living goddess Wonder Woman"), we have Wonder Woman described as 'Prince Diana of the Amazons'.

Prince, FFS.

DC – I know comics are a somewhat juvenile medium, but that doesn't mean you have to spell like teenagers, too. Hire some proofreaders – it's not like there's much text for them to read, so it should be relatively cheap.

Review: Wonder Woman #16/Justice League #16/Batwoman #16 et al

I might have made a rod for my own back here. Trying to flag up and review every appearance of Wonder Woman each month in DC's various titles seemed quite easy (and cheap to do) when it was just Wonder Woman and then Justice League I had to pay attention to. But this month, as well as those and the continuing crossover with Batwoman, there's Ame-Comi girls, the H'El on Earth storyline that's crossing over Superman, Superboy and Supergirl, and the alternative reality Injustice: Gods Among Us to deal with, too. Blimey. I'll try my best anyway.

This month, we've had the continuation of the New Gods storyline in Wonder Woman, including the return of pretty much every Old God we've had so far in the comics. Justice League sees the continuation of the Atlantean war against the upper world - and the return of pretty much every Justice League member from pre-nu52. Batwoman gets a little bit back on track, even if it seems to have lost the plot with Wonder Woman, and H'El on Earth gets all 'mantic. Isn't that nice?

The true motives of the fake geek girl

As Teh Internet knows, no girls actually like sci-fi, comic books, et al. Those that seem to like these traditionally geeky male domains? Faking it. Obviously.

But why? Why would they put on hipster glasses and bone up on Justice League members and Doctor Who continuity? What's their motive? So far, Teh Internet has been silent on this topic. But now we know. Oh yes, now we know.
