Doctor Who series five trailer

Posted on January 4, 2010 | 6 comments |

Just in case you missed it after Doctor Who Confidential on BBC3 (like the intro by David Tennant to The End of Time – Part 2, it didn't air on BBC HD), here's the trailer for series five of Doctor Who with Matt Smith. What are we all thinking? A few familiar faces (and 'faces'), some possible Silurians and a whole lot of action adventure there, including the Doctor throwing a punch and firing a handgun. Enough to upset the old guard or a promise of good things to come?

BTW Americans, you should be able to watch this as well if you want.

I think it looks fun. Matt Smith is going to have his work cut out in our house to persuade the kids he's a worthy replacement, but I like the look of him. The 13 yr old doesn't like his hair, which is odd, because she normally likes wierd hairdos. If they can reinvent it again, good luck to them, but DT is a hard act to follow and I shall (sob!) miss him. Happy New Year btw Rob!

DT did an intro before The End of Time part II? WHAT DID HE SAY? WHAT DID HE SAY ?!

Oh, he's definitely not as fine-featured as Mr Tennant, but I kind of like the idea of someone less handsome and more oddly featured.

As for the trailer - The Doctor using violence? I'm sure its a red herring. But it certainly looked like an action-packed trailer, and we only have to wait until Easter!

'This is the Doctor. The end of time is nigh, the Master is in control, the Time Lords are returning, and it's time to face the final battle'

The thing I notice is that it seems be being shot with a different look than the last few series; more use of blue and metal, no noticable gels or stylised lighting effects, a more "realistic" look overall. Amy's top looks very muted.

The TARDIS console room recalls more clearly the classic series and as do all of the shots of the contemporary village (which isn't something we've seen at all in the new series which suggests that everything happens in cities).

What I would love is a return to a pattern in which not every story seems to feature a global or intergalactic threat. None of Moffat's episodes so far have been about that. Most of RTD's stories have.

    oooooooooooooooooooooh!

I'm very excited - and I really wasn't sure I would be. but i am. it does look very visually/stylistically different doesn't it? And sorry, but even if I can't heart this Doctor as I did the last one, my word that hair is GOOD.
