Weird old titles: Rupert the Bear

Posted on June 9, 2009 | 3 comments |

Time for another weird old title sequence. Rupert Bear has been one of British culture's most enduring characters. Originally a cartoon in the Daily Express, the little bear and his weird array of friends have gone on to have many LSD-soaked adventures in other media, especially TV.

For pure scariness, you can't beat the 70s version of The Adventures of Rupert Bear, which terrified many a child, and now can terrify you, too. What a scary little bear.

I cannot remember that title sequence at all, but scarily the music is lodged somewhere in my brain. Hated Rupert the Bear, but he didn't scare me.

While the camera pans onto Rupert sat by the cupboard all I could hear was the high pitched "evil sadistic killer" squeal used in some horror movies for a similar pan.

Then we see Rupert followed by a procession of decapitated heads.

    He's a killer I tell you!

This video needs to be recut with some narrating in the style of "American Horror Trailer Movie Announcer". I'd do it, but my video editing-fu is weak (no software).

I'm fairly sure there's an even freakier version, with added Raggety, that fuelled a few nightmares
