New Doctor Who companion: Karen Gillan

Posted on May 29, 2009 | 11 comments |

Just in case y'all want to chat about her, since she's going to be Matt Smith's companion on Doctor Who.

Writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said they saw some "amazing actresses" but Gillan "walked through the door the game was up".

He described her as "funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy".

"A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too," he added.

Quite glad she's an unknown as it does write the slate keen in a way. Will have to watch the Pompeii ep again to see what I think. Do hope they don't end up snogging too much, think Moff probably won't be able to resist though...

And somehow, this news does nothing to alleviate the overwhelming sense of "meh" I have about the arrival of the 11th Doctor.

On the flip side, here's to hoping that this means that Moffat et al won't try to bring Rose back again in Series 5. Not that I don't love Rose, but she has her human Doctor now in Pete's World - let's just leave them to their happily ever after, mmkay?

Brilliant! However I am biased in favor of the ginger!
    ;)

Jaradel: the Rose depends on how much Sm has picked up the vibes of RTD's "I just can't stop picking away at this' mentality.

    *sigh*

I too like the ginger though and though its looking to be a bit 'DW:TNG' I'm hoping for a level of frustration from the Doctor that he may miss out on being ginger himself (if that desire wasn't just a Ten quirk)

Am I the only one creeped out by this?

No. Me, too. But I do actually find Stevie M a bit creepy. Very talented man, but I do find some of his, erm, fetishes a bit creepy.

Maybe he's positioning DW for a future adult clothing range. You know, halloween costumes, that kind of thing...

Maybe it's the hair, but she reminds me of Alicia Witt.

I was hoping to go way off to the other side of the spectrum - get someone like Annette Crosbie as a grandmotherly Companion. It would certainly derail the snogging trend in the series!

The Snogfest is probably over. Matt Smith looks like a decent Doctor, but he doesn't have the sex appeal of Tennant, sorry.... there is something really cute and huggable about David... it wasn't there with Eccleston either.

I actually cracked up watching that Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant spoof on Doctor Who that's on youTube (actually written by Moffat several years ago). Now Hugh Grant would have been a Doctor worth snogging....

But that woman Doctor Who with those big knockers, LOL!

    I like that thinking!
