Another Emma??? What about writing some original drama instead?
I also loved:
"2009 will also see Desperate Romantics and Small Island burst onto the screen and we believe that this offers viewers a real range of stories about our heritage."
Let's hope the person who writs the press releases will not be allowed anywhere near the script.

Yes much as I love Jane Austen, it would be nice to see something new. I really liked Cranford because I'd never read the books and it felt fresh.
Also I'd dispute Prince Caspian being the least commercial Narnia story - I'd go for Horse and his Boy/Magician's Nephew for that honour. I think people generally quote PC as their favourite after TLtWatW, but maybe that's just people I know... I didn't love the film as PC as much as the first one, but I did quite like the way they made Susan fall in love with Prince Caspian, even if it didn't happen in the book, because it certainly fits her character later in the series. And I think that little girl who plays Lucy is astonishing. I hope with Dawn Treader they play down the sentimentality of Reepicheep (shoot that mouse I say) and the crass Christian symbolism at the end...

Just weighing in, Jane, to say that Prince Caspian is my least favourite Narnian book. (I always liked The Horse and His Boy.) So relieved that PC is out of the way so we can get to the good stuff.
I, too, am getting a bit fed-up with Austen dramatizations. (Why do they always end with an anachronistic waltz?) Also Dickens. Done to death.

That was me, by the way. The comment form robbed me of my identity.

The slight location move will have done that for one time and hopefully one time only. If only I had more power over cookies. Sorry.

Ah Persephone, I realised as soon as I'd said it, it was a dangerous thing to say... I like Horse and his Boy too, not least cos it features twins and very few books in my childhood did, but it always seemed to me to sit outside the major story arc, and felt a bit odd. We didn't agree about The Dark is Rising either did we??

Slight disagreement, Jane, like this one. I didn't care for Under Sea Under Stone, and you didn't care for Greenwitch. No biggie.
