Love the Head Crusher! (And the guy hooked on "girl drinks". And the guy who picks up hicks at hockey games and dresses in a Dracula cape to seduce them. And "These Are the Daves I Know"...) However, try as I might, I've never quite got the League of Gentlemen. Do you think a Canadian angle might help?

Coincidentally this week's Bookseller also carries an ad for The Associate - the character of Kyle McAvoy sthe young law graduate from Yale who should have the world at his feet but instead ends up blackmailed reminds John Grisham of another young lawyer, Mitch McDeere who featured in The Firm. No kidding! The story doesn't sound at all similar. Still what the hell, I'm sure I'll enjoy it anyway....

Persephone, I am still recovering from the shock of discovering that you don't get The League of Gentlemen. Maybe it is a bit British, but as I'm married to a Dave, the line, You're my wife now takes on extra significance in my house...

I think a lot of League is bound up in British culture (as well as horror films) so if you don't like/are well acquainted with either/both, it's not that funny.

Love the Head Crusher sketch where he found out all the heads had already been crushed by someone further down the street from him.

Maybe... I think humour is a rather idiosyncratic thing, because I can't always put my finger on why I find things funny. (Yes, I know it's got to do with recognition, but over-analyse it and nothing's funny anymore...
I love Monty Python and Beyond the Fringe; never got the Goons.
I love Black Adder, but (and this really is a mystery to me) never got A Bit of Fry and Laurie, except for a couple of sketches, and I'm a big fan of both gentlemen.
I find Little Britain mean-spirited and revolting for the most part, but am loopily charmed by The Mighty Boosh. Go figure. (Or better still, don't.)

I was joshing Persephone, LOG isn't to a lot of English tastes either (my twin hates it),but it appeals to the dark side for me. It can be seriously unpleasant - the Christmas special a few years ago was the creepiest comedy I've ever seen. I watched it alone and was seeing things by the end. I did love the conceit of the film where they were trying to kill off the characters though.

I liked the first couple of series of Little Britain but its got a bit gross for my tastes now, and while I like Walliams and Lucas, I prefer Mitchell and Webb.

I love the Mighty Boosh, which is bonkers and off the wall enough to make me laugh out loud.
