Can we just discuss the ludicrous way Variety writes its showbiz stories? All "thesp" this and "scribe" that and bonkers grammar. And am I understanding this wrong - in the Lauren Graham story do they really use the word "laffer" to mean "comedy"?

It's irritating, isn't it? Absolutely daft. But it's been going on for the best part of 100 years so they probably don't know how to stop it - and there's bound to be a few traditionalists who regard it as a Variety USP that everyone loves.

And yes, laffer for comedy. Doh.
